The Moore Lions came into the 2024 football season hungry to make it back to the playoffs. They had been close in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and came up just short for three straight years. The Lions would start 2024 in familiar territory. They started the season 3-0 after rivalry wins over Westmoore and Southmoore and then beating Norman North in a close one. But the Lions had started 3-0 in the previous three seasons and missed out on the playoffs each time. They opened district play with a win over Mustang and that would go a long way to punching their ticket to the playoffs. October wasn't very kind to the Lions as their record would flip. After winning their first four games, they lost four straight in the month of October. They rallied to beat Edmond North and Enid in the final two weeks of the regular season to solidify their spot in the playoffs. In the first round, they faced Norman North, a team they beat in week three. The Lions finally made it to the playoffs but the trip was a short one as they lost 30-19 in the first round. The season ended with a 6-5 record but the Lions ended that playoff drought but as the dust settled on the 2024 season, a new era of Moore football is about to begin in 2025.

2025 OUTLOOK

Shortly after the 2024 season ended, head coach Greg Bryant stepped down as head coach of the Lions following his third season at the helm. The Lions would introduce Cameron Bennett as their next head coach. He came to Moore following several years as an assistant coach on the Norman North staff. Moore beat Norman North in the regular season but lost to them in the playoffs and now Bennett is in charge of the Lion den. Bennett takes over a Moore program that on paper, looks like it could be rebuilding in 2025. They lost a significant senior class that had over 30 players from last year's team. Only four starters are back on the offensive side of the ball and they'll have a new quarterback under center but he's a terrific athlete that is no stranger to the QB position. Defensively, the Lions have to find a way to replace ten starters from last year's team as only one defensive starter returns in 2025. The area that we're looking at specifically is the front seven. The Lions had multiple standouts within the front seven last season and at least three are now getting ready to play college football this fall. The Lions will look to get out to another fast start this season but the schedule is going to be tougher than normal. The schedule rotation worked out in Moore's favor last year but that's not the case this season. Seven of their ten games are away from home. They only play one home game in the first half of the regular season. The Lions will make the most of their limited opportunities to play in front of the home crowd.

The line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball is an area where the Lions are going to need new names to step up in 2025. Junior offensive and defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1602242' first='Brady' last='Prestridge'] is one of the returning starters on the offensive side of the ball. Prestridge will look to set the tone on the line of scrimmage while the Lions break in some new players elsewhere on the offensive side of the ball. The Lions are going to have one of the better running backs in Class 6A-1 so Prestridge and the rest of the Moore offensive line will definitely play an important role this season.

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1751526' first='Maverick' last='Gardner'] is moving over to the quarterback this season. Gardner is a very versatile athlete that was able to be moved around last season. Now, he's replacing Miller at the quarterback position and the Lions are going to have a very athletic and explosive backfield this season with Gardner at QB1. We're looking forward to seeing what kind of impact Gardner will have just playing the quarterback position. We are a little familiar with his game from playing different positions but now, he's been handed the keys to this offense and is ready to go.

Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1506286' first='Ozias' last='Adams'] is fresh off a breakout sophomore season. Looking back at some of our notes from this time last year, we didn't know much about Adams but that quickly changed. Adams would lead the Lions and their balanced rushing attack with nearly 900 yards and 12 touchdowns. Now, we expect Adams to see his production go up in a major way. They had four players that had more than 50 carries in 2024 and three have graduated. Adams carried the ball 162 times last season and that number could easily go over 200 this season. He has potential to be one of the top backs in 6A-1 this fall.

A 2028 prospect that we got a chance to watch in person a handful of times this offseason was [player_tooltip player_id='1539460' first='Reggie' last='Butler'] and he's a name that we're excited to watch this fall with the pads on. In various camps and 7v7 tournaments, Butler was a name that kept popping up on both sides of the ball. He tested really well from a speed perspective at our January camp and then had a solid offseason. Now, we get to see what he can do under the bright lights of Friday night. Whether it's on the offensive side of the ball or on defense, we're fired up to see what kind of breakout season he has.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - AT Westmoore
- For the second straight year, Moore will kick off the regular season against rival Westmoore. Last season, the Lions dominated this match-up, winning 35-3. That was just their second win over the Jaguars in the last two decades. The other win came in 2021. They look for their third to kick off 2025.
Sept. 12th - AT Southmoore
- After taking a week off, the Lions head over to Southmoore to face the Sabercats. While the Lions haven't had as much success against Westmoore, that hasn't been the case with Southmoore. Last season, they beat Southmoore 45-13 and that was their fourth straight win in the series.
Sept. 19th - AT Norman North
- Non-district play wraps up with another road game against Norman North. These two teams met twice last season and split the meetings. Moore won 33-28 in the regular season while Norman North won 30-19 in the playoff rematch. Moore's new head coach is a former Norman North assistant.
Sept. 26th - Mustang
- The home opener finally comes in week four as Moore will open up district play against Mustang. These two teams have played some very close games in the last two years. Last year, Moore won 21-20 and the year before, they won 44-41. Overall, they've won three straight against the Broncos.
Oct. 3rd - AT Bixby
- Moore heads east to face off with defending champion and top-ranked Bixby in week five. These two teams became district foes in 2022 and it hasn't been very competitive. Moore lost 49-7 last season but when you're talking about measuring stick games in 6A-1, Bixby is the measuring stick for the best of the best.
Oct. 10th - Deer Creek
- The second half of the regular season kicks off with a home game against Deer Creek in week six. Last season was the first time these two met on the gridiron as Deer Creek made the move up to Class 6A-1. The Antlers won 30-20 but this year's meeting will look very different as both teams were hit by graduation.
Oct. 17th - AT Norman
- Moore heads south to Norman to take on the Tigers in week seven. These two played a high-scoring and back and forth game in 2024. The Tigers won 42-35 and that snapped Moore's three-game winning streak against the Tigers. It was their first meeting as district opponents in recent memory.
Oct. 24th - AT Jenks
- Moore heads back east to square off with Jenks in week eight. The Lions are still looking for their first win over the Trojans in recent memory. The Trojans rolled to a 56-14 victory over the Lions last season. And this is another match-up where Moore faces a team with a first year head coach.
Oct. 31st - Edmond North
- On a Halloween Friday night in week nine, the Lions host Edmond North for their final home game in the regular season. Last season, the Lions rolled to a 49-21 victory over the Huskies. That was their fourth straight win in the series and it was also their sixth win in the last seven years.
Nov. 7th - AT Enid
- The regular season comes to an end in week ten with Moore's seventh road game of the year. They head to Enid to face the Plainsmen. Both teams will have first year head coaches this season. The Lions beat Enid 38-0 and that snapped a two-game losing streak to the Plainsmen.

The Moore Lions are trying to make some history this season. If Moore can get out to a fast start once again, they'll have an opportunity to become city champs for the second straight season. In the last (nearly) two decades, Moore has only been the city champ on two occasions and they've both come in the last four seasons. In fact, Moore has never gone back to back seasons where they beat rivals Southmoore and Westmoore. They were city champs in 2021 but didn't repeat in 2022. They beat both of their rivals in 2024 and will have an opportunity to make some school history this season. Both Southmoore and Westmoore come into this season improved from 2024 but the Lions aren't going to back down from the challenge. It's a unique opportunity early on for Moore and if they can become city champs for the second straight year, that will certainly give this team a lot of momentum for a squad that has new faces everywhere.
