Taking a break from our team previews, I want to a couple of scrimmages this past weekend and saw a lot of promising talent. Virginia is gearing up as regular season ball begins for most schools on Thursday August 28th. With a few exceptions, most teams will have another week of scrimmage action before the real fun gets going. A couple of thoughts on what I saw both on the field and tape below:

Battlefield offense impressive:

My first stop on Friday was over to Vienna where the reigning State runner ups James Madison hosted the Battlefield Bobcats. Madison in the action I witnessed could not muster much offensively but this was more expected as Coach Counts implements a new starting quarterback. What really stood out was the way Battlefield moved the ball on the top ranked Warhawks defense. [player_tooltip player_id='1236733' first='Jayden' last='Blackstock'] had some very impressive runs as he helped the Bobcats move the ball almost at will. I will be curious to see if star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='853820' first='Calum' last='O'Shea'] is fully healthy before they square off with North Stafford, if he is look once again for Battlefield.

Saint James is going to be fun to watch:

Next up was a trip over to Springfield for the newly revamped Saint James Academy with Head Coach Daryl Overton in action. If you every have an opportunity to visit Saint James facility I would highly recommend it. Their building has everything from a Kids play land to an Ice Hockey rink, there really is something there for everybody. Anyhow their football squad welcomed Huguenot this past Saturday and it was a fun filled affair. Our number 1 ranked 2028 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1014900' first='Charles' last='Scott Jr.'], was as advertised! Going up against a defense that has filtered with all stars, Scott was calm in the pocket and made some very accurate throws. Despite facing heavy pressure Scott did hook up with [player_tooltip player_id='1373018' first='Jhamari' last='Cain'] for a beautiful 40 yard touchdown pass. Cain is another promising prospect from Huguenot's 2028 group ranked 56th overall in this class.

Saint James was fun to watch on both sides of the ball and on offense it was Josiah Teasley who made the biggest impact. On their first offensive series Teasley took two short passes the distance he was a one man wrecking crew. The Strivers have a loaded roster in particular the receiver room goes 4 deep, so I had to do a double take to make sure I had the right wideout. Teasley is a rising senior who committed to Virginia this past June, he already looks very comfortable a new offense.

Colgan a playoff team in 2025?

If you listened to the All Hitches podcast that I appear on often (hopefully more), I picked the Sharks as my sleeper for a playoff spot. They sure made me feel good after 1 scrimmage as they pulled in an impressive performance against Eastern View. George Hall was on point per usual and the Musselman twins showed once again why they are going to be a matchup nightmare in 2025. Outside of Woodbridge and Gar Field their does not seem to be a third team from the Cardinal District who has separated themselves yet in my opinion. Why not the Sharks for the first time in school history?

The Number 1 prospect in our 2029 Group continues his ascension:

Reclassifying to our 2029 class, Roanoke Catholic's [player_tooltip player_id='1694550' first='Zion' last='Goode'] may have proved his number 1 ranking already. Just look at the speed and power below, cannot wait for Goode's sophomore campaign.
