For the second straight year, the Jenks Trojans stumbled out of the gate but would rally and make a run in Class 6A-1. In 2023, they began the season 2-3 but would make it all the way to the 6A-1 state championship game. In 2024, they won their opener but would drop their next three games, starting 1-3 on the year. But they would rally and make it to the 6A-1 semifinals, losing a triple overtime heartbreaker to Owasso. The Trojans had high expectations in 2024 but they lost to Owasso, Union and Bixby in the month of September. They would turn things around immediately, winning the rest of their games in the regular season by 19 points or more. They were never really threatened in district play after losing in week four to Bixby. The Trojans had some momentum going into the playoffs and they began their playoff run with a rematch against rival Union. Jenks fell to Union 9-3 on the road in a regular season game that certainly ended with some controversy. The rematch had no such controversy. The Trojans rolled to a 42-7 victory over the Redhawks. They would get another rematch in the semifinals, against an Owasso team that beat them 42-24 in week one. Jenks would push the unbeaten Rams to the brink, in a game that would end up going to three overtimes. But after Jenks kicked a field goal, the Rams would score the game-winning touchdown and the Trojan season came to an end at 8-4.

2025 OUTLOOK

A new era will begin for the Jenks Trojans in 2025 but the expectations haven't changed one bit. Adam Gaylor has taken over as head coach after Keith Riggs stepped down following the season. They will once again go into the season as a top five team in the preseason rankings and expect to contend for the state championship in December. The Trojans will bring back five starters on the offensive side of the ball, headlined by one of the best overall players in the state, a talented offensive line and some serious skill talent. A quarterback battle is ongoing at the time of this preview publishing but the Trojans should feel confident with whoever ends up taking the field as QB1 this fall. Tyler Chronister takes over as offensive coordinator and in his last few stops, he's led a very high-scoring and up-tempo attack on offense at Walnut Grove (TX) and Collinsville. The Trojans certainly have all the pieces to have an offense that explodes this fall. Defensively, five starters return on that side of the ball and they lost some All State caliber players so it won't be easy to maintain that dominant defense that we've seen the last few years. With Gaylor moving up to head coach, his hands will still be all over the defense and we don't expect them to take a step back on that side of the ball but the young players will need to come along in a hurry. Because once again, the toughest part of the schedule takes place in the first month of the season. They'll play Owasso, Union and Bixby in September alone. That's baptism by fire in Oklahoma high school football but the Trojans have a team that can contend for the gold ball when December rolls around. And let's face it, that's the expectation no matter who's in charge, what experience or talent they bring back and nothing's changing in 2025.

If you're looking for a breakout star of the 2025 season, junior hybrid tight end [player_tooltip player_id='693998' first='Braxton' last='Daniel'] could end up being that player for the Trojans. Daniel has been a name that we've talked about since he was a freshman and he's dealt with injuries and adjusting to a new program after moving from Booker T Washington to Jenks. But after we watched Daniel multiple times this offseason, we're confident that it's only a matter of time for that breakout moment for Daniel. The Jenks junior really impressed us when we caught him in the spring. The Trojans have the potential to light up the scoreboard this fall and Daniel is a player that we have circled for that breakout season.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1030447' first='Kailib' last='Dillard'] would earn All State Honorable Mention honors last season for his work on the defensive side of the ball. But in addition to being a standout safety, Dillard also has the potential to be one of the top weapons in the passing game. Similar to Daniel, we got a chance to see Dillard quite a bit this offseason and every time we did, he was lighting up opposing secondaries at the wide receiver position. Last year, Dillard finished with 70 tackles and multiple plays from the secondary. This season, we expect his defensive production to go up but his offensive production is going to go through the roof. He might end up being the top downfield threat in the passing game.

Simply put, senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='402378' first='KD' last='Jones'] is one of, if not the best player in the state of Oklahoma. He's been an absolute dude since his freshman season and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Jones is the ultimate weapon on the offensive side of the ball. He can be a workhorse running back but also a threat out of the backfield in the passing game. This offseason, Jones stepped up and returned to pulling double duty on offense and defense. He hasn't played defense since halfway through his sophomore season but that will change this fall as he joins the Jenks secondary. But make no mistake about it, he is one of the more dangerous offensive weapons in Oklahoma.

Junior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1297665' first='Luke' last='McInelly'] enjoyed a monster breakout season last year as a sophomore. McInelly was lined up against some of the best offensive linemen in the state at various times last year and it didn't matter. He brought the fight to them on every snap and held his own. On the season, McInelly would finish with 70 tackles and seven sacks. It doesn't matter where he lines up on the line of scrimmage, he finds a way into the backfield and causes problems for the opposing offense. Now, the front seven is an area that we have circled because the Trojans lost D1 players at DL and LB. But if McInelly takes the next step in his progression, they should be fine up front.

At this time last year, we had our eyes on junior offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='527903' first='Odaefe' last='Oruru'] as a potential breakout player if he put all the tools together. And as a sophomore, he did just that. Oruru became the starting left tackle for a pretty talented Jenks offensive line and he has all the makings of that type of prospect for the next level. The scary part of Oruru's game is it still feels like he has so much room to grow and the ceiling continues to get higher and higher for him as a prospect. The Jenks junior will look to set the tone on the line of scrimmage as a left tackle and take that next step as a prospect. The state's 2027 OL group is incredibly talented at the top but Oruru belongs near that group.

Senior offensive lineman and Tulsa commit [player_tooltip player_id='467408' first='Ryley' last='Kester'] will be a four-year starter on the offensive line this fall. He spent his first two seasons at Sand Springs and became an All State-caliber player with the Sandites. Last summer, he moved over to Jenks and remained that dominant player along the line of scrimmage. Kester has the ability to line up just about anywhere he needs to be on the offensive line and dominate. This spring, he was taking a lot of snaps at center and also playing some defense. No matter where he lines up, he's bringing a lot of fight to the opponent and plays with an unstoppable mean streak that you just don't see very often in high school football.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - AT Edmond Santa Fe
- The 2025 season will open on the road against Edmond Santa Fe. This will be the fourth straight year that the Trojans have opened their season against Santa Fe. They've won the last two and five out of the last six. That includes last year's dominant 48-3 victory at home.
Sept. 5th - AT Owasso
- Jenks goes on the road for their week one clash with Owasso and they'll be looking to turn things around in this series. The Trojans have lost the last three and six of the last eight in this series. That includes last year's semifinal clash that went to triple overtime and Owasso prevailed.
Sept. 12th - Union
- It's the annual Backyard Bowl between Jenks and Union and it doesn't get much better than this one. These two met twice last year, with Union winning the regular season meeting and Jenks dominating the playoff rematch. Don't be surprised if this is the first of two meetings in 2025.
Sept. 26th - Bixby
- District play opens up in week four with the most important game on the schedule. Jenks will host defending champion Bixby and the winner here will be in the driver's seat for the district crown. Jenks has lost four straight to the Spartans and will be desperate to turn things around.
Oct. 3rd - AT Norman
- After the Bixby showdown, Jenks goes on the road to face Norman. The Tigers ended up being the surprise team in 6A-1 last season, beating Bixby on the road in week ten. The Trojans had no problems with them. They won 31-12 and haven't lost to Norman anytime recently.
Oct. 10th - Mustang
- The second half of the regular season begins at home with a big match-up against Mustang. Jenks took care of business against the Broncos last year, winning 45-13. But Mustang has absolutely reloaded and they will be a popular “dark horse” pick to make a lot of noise in 6A-1.
Oct. 16th - AT Deer Creek
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Jenks heads west to face off with Deer Creek. Last year, the Antlers and Trojans faced off for the first time as Deer Creek moved up to 6A-1. The Trojans welcomed Deer Creek to the state's largest class with a 28-0 victory at home.
Oct. 24th - Moore
- Jenks will host Moore in week eight and this is another match-up with an OKC-area program that has been completely one-sided. The Trojans rolled to a 56-14 victory over the Lions in 2024. In the last decade, only one game between these two teams was decided by less than ten points.
Oct. 31st - AT Enid
- In week nine, on a Halloween night, Jenks hits the road to square off with Enid. The Trojans and Plainsmen have been district foes since 2018 and this series has been completely one-sided, in favor of the Trojans. This year's match-up features two first-year head coaches.
Nov. 6th - Edmond North
- Jenks hosts Edmond North in week ten and these two teams don't have much history against one another. They became district opponents last year but the previous two meetings were both in the playoffs. Last year, Jenks beat Edmond North 21-0 in a weather-shortened game.

It's not easy to follow a legend but Keith Riggs certainly did as well as he possibly could. Riggs took over the Jenks program in 2018 and he guided the Trojans to five state championship games and captured two state championships in his seven seasons in charge. In December, Riggs stepped down as head coach of the Trojans and passed that pressure on to defensive coordinator Adam Gaylor. Gaylor is now the man in charge of arguably the most historic brand in Oklahoma high school football. He was the defensive coordinator on Riggs' staffs since 2019. Before that, he was at Mustang for three seasons in the same role. He was also Westmoore's head coach from 2014 to 2015 and that was the only other head coaching experience that Gaylor has on his record. Jenks is very clearly a program that expects to compete for state championships every single season. The 2025 season will be no different. It's a pressure cooker of a job and Gaylor is fully aware of the history and expectations in Jenks, America.
