1A/2A IDLs To Know

As we approach the season, realignment is at the top of my mind. For the first time, North Carolina is going to an 8A system, which will further stratify the schools. So, over the next couple of months, I'm going through the lower classifications to highlight the players fans will need to know.   We've arrived at the defensive side of the ball and we're starting with the interior defensive linemen. Often a position without much depth at the lower classifications, North Carolina is bucking the trend this season, with some really talented interior defenders. Here are five 1A/2A IDLs to know. He's been focused on improving his pass-rushing technique and conditioning this offseason as he enters his senior year. On the field, he can often win with pure size and power, but the North Carolina commit has really become a talented pass-rusher in camp settings against some of the country's top pass protectors.     Kamba has the potential to be one of the top interior pass-rushers in the entire country. A two-way player, he excelled as a run blocker on offense and a run-stuffer on defense, racking up 26 tackles for loss as a sophomore. He has a quick and powerful first step that puts offensive linemen off balance and puts him in position to make plays.     Fields is a bit undersized as an interior pass-rusher, and I thought he might go through the recruiting process as an edge rusher, but colleges really like him on the inside. He's recently blown up on the recruiting trail with offers from SEC powers and I think there's room for him to continue improving as both a stout interior run defender and a versatile pass-rusher for Corvian.     Chavis has been on our radar for years, a guy who was identified by our Prep Redzone Next staff and who played well as a freshman. As a sophomore, he really broke out, racking up six sacks, but also expanding his game and doing a better job at maintaining his gap and making plays in the running game.     A massive defensive tackle for Tarboro, Davis does more than just eat up space for his teammates. In fact, he finished his junior year with 60 total tackles and 10 for loss. He's a guy who can play almost every down and even contributed as a pass-rusher, racking up six sacks a season ago.
