A rankings update for Iowa's 2028 Class dropped on Wednesday. The guy at the top stayed put, but there was movement behind him, and whole lot of new additions from our last update.

West Des Moines Dowling Catholic's [player_tooltip player_id='1583613' first='Carter' last='Barrett'] remained at No. 1. I had a feeling he was going to blow up when watching him at the UNI-Dome in the state semifinals against rival Valley. Facing another top big-school program, he impacted the game at left offensive tackle. Barrett (6-6, 290) has proved me prophetic.

Alamaba recently offered him a scholarship. The Crimson Tide joined Iowa, Iowa State, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin in doing so. They won't be the last.

While there are a good group of student-athletes with potential in this class, Barrett is in a tier by himself when it comes to these rankings. For now, at least, he's clearly above the others in Iowa's 2028 cycle.

The second tier is comprised of Waverly-Shell Rock [player_tooltip player_id='1596610' first='Jayden' last='Stephens'] and Madrid's [player_tooltip player_id='1693550' first='Jevyn' last='Severson'], a pair of versatile athletes with present production and high ceilings. Iowa and Iowa State offered Stephens scholarships earlier this month after their camps. He showed them the speed and athleticism that helped him stand out in track this spring. The Cyclones offered Severson in April, and Kansas State and Wisconsin followed suit during June.

[player_tooltip player_id='1077234' first='Hayden' last='Shannon'] makes up the third tier of these rankings. The PCM offensive lineman picked up a Nebraska offer on May 31, and Iowa State joined the Huskers less than a week later.

A pair student-athletes reside in the next tier. Iowa City West two-way lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1038029' first='James' last='Barnett'], son of Iowa offensive line coach George Barnett, and Dowling O-Lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1286887' first='Evan' last='Mitchell'] are poised to see their recruitments rise this season. The Hawkeyes likely will offer Barnett at some point and him playing for his father makes a lot of sense. Iowa and Iowa State have played host to Mitchell on multiple visits and had him on campus for camps this summer.

After the six student-athletes at the top of these rankings, the group opens up and many of the guys are interchangeable. Their sophomore seasons will go a long way in forming our next few updates.

At No. 7 now, [player_tooltip player_id='1584562' first='Luke' last='Iverson'] has the tools to be make a jump forward after starting as a freshman at Norwalk, where he intercepted two passes. The experience should also help our eighth-ranked prospect, Iowa City High linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1583593' first='Marshall' last='Sheldon'], whose 69.0 tackles led all Class 5A freshmen a year ago.

Even as a ninth-grader, 6-foot-4, 200-pound [player_tooltip player_id='1601655' first='Ayden' last='Coenen'] literally looked like a man among boys lining up in the eight-player game for Woodbine. Our No. 9 player caught 28 balls, including five touchdowns.

Rounding out our Top 10 in the update is [player_tooltip player_id='1583617' first='Riley' last='Vanderlinden'] from Bondurant-Farrar. The versatile athlete piled up more than 1,000 yards of total yards of offense with eight combined touchdowns.

Know that it's still really early in the careers of these dudes. Plenty of room for upward mobility remains with three years of high school to go. Future rankings will reflect that development.

For now, this is where we're at. We'll be writing much more about this class in the coming days, so please stay with Prep Redzone Iowa for in-depth looks and scouting reports.
