On Saturday, May 10th, 2025 I was welcomed back for the third year in a row to cover Coach Nick Pennisi's PSR Big Camp Series hosted at Monroe High School in Monroe, New Jersey. As I have come to expect, this event was packed with participation, loaded with talent, and ran extremely well.

Different than other events, Pennisi opted to have three different check-in times, based on position groupings. This afforded me the opportunity to get a closer look at many of the prospects in attendance. Below are just some of my notes on the position group mentioned in this article's title.

North Plainfield has had their struggles in recent history, but when a 6'3" 255lb lineman is on your roster the tide of your program may be turning. I thought that for a raw talent with size, [player_tooltip player_id='1165853' first='Caleb' last='Henderson'] did an adequate job of recovering when beat. This likely has to do with how well he can move laterally. A solid prospect, albeit raw, Henderson has the right idea in pass protection by keeping his hands in tight... Coming down from Englewood, Dwight Morrow's [player_tooltip player_id='1678358' first='Richard' last='Duque'] was one of only a few true centers who made the trip. For Duque to have continued, sustained success - both individually and as an offensive line unit - he would be best served to snap and take his first step simultaneously.

Aside from being home to some elite pizza from DeLucia's, Raritan is also home to [player_tooltip player_id='1678357' first='Christian' last='Torino']. Just like the pizza folks travel to get from far and wide, Torino has a good base (tomato sauce) and even better bend (crispy, crunchy crust). All-in-all, Torino is a prospect that managed to stay in front of the vast majority of his matchups with ease due to his superior leverage... Few prospects were larger than 6'6" 285lb [player_tooltip player_id='826572' first='Joseph' last='Irvine'] out of St. Augustine. Irvine is really good at riding people both across the pocket when they cross face and throwing them out of the club when they try to run the loop. I am not sure if it has to do with his feet or his general size, but the 2026 prospect did a nice job of playing basketball defense, staying between the his matchup and the quarterback. I do, however, want to see him anchor a bit sooner when facing a bull rush.

[player_tooltip player_id='1678359' first='Marcelo' last='Salas'] was a prospect that garnered a lot of praise from coaches and ended up competing in the finals. The Union City product showed an ability to quickly power down after kick stepping. I thought he had decent pad level - decent enough to stop a much lower bull rush. Using an anchoring technique will allow this to come more quickly and easier. Never the less, the Soaring Eagle in Salas was strong and big enough to win up top... If size is what you seek, then all of 6'5" 300lb [player_tooltip player_id='1270238' first='Jordan' last='Evans'] might be your answer. Evans has an opportunity to fine tune his game a bit before he enters his senior season. Immediate opportunities for growth would be for Evans to sit back in his stance and stay a bit lower. Doing so will likely aid him in protecting the inside lane.

In the never-ending battle for intra-district transfers in Newark, Newark Central appears to have a good one in [player_tooltip player_id='1678362' first='Louikenson' last='Jn Baptiste']. A center, I thought Jn Baptiste had very quick hands. Jn Baptiste did not allow his snap arm to get exploited ever, as his hands were quick to recover after going backwards. Moreover, he appears to have strong hands that allow him to grab and control his matchup, as well as long arms he locks out to maintain distance in pass protection... Muhammad Ali once famously said that he "floats like a butterfly, sting like a bee." This ability to float is evidently shared between Ali and Rahway's [player_tooltip player_id='1678363' first='Ryan' last='Gourdet']. I really liked Gourdet's kick step. It was quick, light, powerful, and urgent. That said, it really seemed like he was floating when he set vertically.

I cannot deny it at this point: [player_tooltip player_id='341119' first='Caden' last='Sternlieb'] was a prospect I wanted to hate on, but his play on film and in person performances prevents the football coach and fellow lineman within me from doing so. Sternlieb's advantage comes from, I think, two things. First, Sternlieb is a bit on the shorter side, is very broad, and is built like a brick wall. Combine this with the fact that his feet are very quick, likely due to do his wrestling prowess, and you have a big, thick, quick-footed prospect that understands leverage in the trenches - AKA a lineman that you cannot get past. All this held true during the PSR Big Camp Series as well. Sternlieb was a tough out, not losing a matchup I recall watching of his; he does, however need to be more conscientious and work to keep his hands inside the defensive lineman's framework.
