Iowa 27s Primed For Big Junior Years

Morgan had solid production with 25 tackles, eight TFLs, four sacks, and a fumble recovery. The Bulldogs' lineman impressed on tape with his versatility along the defensive line, showing that he can effectively play the 1-5 techniques. He plays with great leverage and keeps his trigger ready to shoot at the point of attack. Once he's locked in, Charlie can work his hands inside and has the leg drive to move his opponent off their spot. Sometimes it's as simple as "doing your job," and Charlie does that very well with his ability to clog up and penetrate interior run lanes when playing DT and can provide pressure when lining up as a defensive end. Le Mars' [player_tooltip player_id='1674573' first='Josh' last='Adol'] showed out on tape with his ability to stuff the run game and provide an interior pass rush. Adol has a taller frame at 6'4", 265 pounds, with great length and room to continue packing mass onto his build. Josh showed his ability to stack up blockers at the line of scrimmage before using his upper body strength to rip his way through and spill into the backfield. He does a good job tracking the ball with his eyes and has the athleticism to chase down QBs outside the pocket. [player_tooltip player_id='1674574' first='Cooper' last='Belitz']'s bigger frame at 6'2" and 205 pounds allows him to create mismatches, using his size to out-muscle DBs and the quickness to create separation against slower LBs. He does a good job of finding and exploiting empty pockets in coverage to give his QB an open target over the middle of the field and help move the chains. Strong hands and good concentration make him reliable at the catch point. Belitz ended his sophomore season with 19 receptions for 204 yards and four receiving touchdowns. Nathan will presumably take over QB1 duties now that older brother [player_tooltip player_id='252221' first='Alex' last='Manske'] is headed to Iowa State. Nathan stepped in nicely when his number was called, completing 61% of his passes for 860 yards and 10 touchdowns. From clips I've seen, Nathan has shown a live arm that can deliver an accurate ball to his receivers. Manske should also be a threat on the ground, considering he rushed for 140 yards and four touchdowns. One player to note is outside linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1674980' first='Carter' last='Barber'], who showed his ability to attack at the line of scrimmage and flip his hips to drop into coverage. He does a great job reacting to the ball, making sure not to overcommit, and playing with solid gap integrity. He has the strength to fight through blocks and is a sure tackler once he gets to the ball carrier. Barber also has the instincts to sniff out RBs and receivers in the flats, displaying the closing speed to eliminate any yardage after the catch. Carter finished third on the team in tackles with 41.5 total tackles and three TFLs.
