The Prep Redzone Oklahoma team camp tour continued on Friday morning with a stop at Carl Albert. The defending 5A champs were hosting reigning 4A champion Elgin and Southmoore. We got a good look at two defending champions and a 6A-2 team ready to make some noise in 2025. In this breakdown, we're taking a look specifically at Elgin. The Owls finally broke through and captured the school's first state championship in 2024. While they lost a special senior class to graduation, if Friday was any indication, they're reloading to defend that crown in 2025. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more team camp coverage, including another breakdown featuring standouts from Carl Albert and Southmoore!

[player_tooltip player_id='1680012' first='Cayden' last='Belletto'] - 2027 Quarterback

One of the biggest questions we had for Elgin coming into this season is how they'd replace a three-year starter at the quarterback position. That's not much of a question anymore after checking them out and seeing 2027 signal caller Caydne Belletto in person. According to head coach Chalmer Wyatt, Belletto has been patiently waiting his turn behind arguably the best quarterback in school history. That's not an easy position to replace but Belletto really impressed us on Friday morning. While you're not exactly supposed to hit the quarterback in team camp settings, that wasn't really the case Friday and the live bullets didn't phase Belletto. On a number of occasions, he made some huge throws in the face of intense pressure.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680014' first='Dalvin' last='Clark'] - 2027 Running Back

Running back was not a question we had regarding Elgin's offense coming into this season but it looks like they're going to be deeper in 2025. The Owls already have one of the very best workhorse backs in the state but the emergence of 2027 running back [player_tooltip player_id='1680014' first='Dalvin' last='Clark'] will give them another threat in that running game. Clark passed the eye test immediately and he appeared to still be a little raw but some of the natural talent that you need is clearly there. And for Elgin, they're not going to have to rely on Clark to carry the ball 20-25 times a game so that's going to allow the young running back to ease his way into serious playing time. Clark is a name to file away for when he becomes the marquee back of this offense in 2026.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680015' first='Lucas' last='Young'] - 2026 Wide Receiver

2026 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1680015' first='Lucas' last='Young'] was the first of two pass catchers that immediately caught our attention because of their length and ability to make tough catches. Like we mentioned earlier, Elgin's passing game isn't much of a question anymore and having reliable weapons at the wide receiver position is going to keep them balanced as a unit. Young is all of 6'3 or taller and he was a match-up nightmare for opposing defensive backs. He had a size advantage against almost everyone on Friday and that caused defenders to resort to being physical with Young. That wasn't a problem for him. He would have defenders draped on him and still find a way to make the catch. It's hard to not be impressed with what Elgin is building on offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] - 2026 Running Back/Linebacker

We might have had some questions about Elgin coming into the team camp on Friday but 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='472321' first='Ritson' last='Meyer'] was not one of them. The last time we saw Meyer, he was carrying the ball 40+ times to help the Owls capture their first ever state championship. Meyer is without a doubt one of the best workhorse running backs in the state as we look ahead to the 2025 football season. Now, the Owls will have a rebuilt offensive line and this was our first chance to see how Meyer looked with a new crew blocking for him. Nothing looked different on Friday morning. Meyer has that ability to wear down a defense and it's not exactly fun tackling a physical ball carrier like Meyer. He's probably the top running back in Class 4A heading into this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680013' first='Tucker' last='New'] - 2027 Wide Receiver

Young isn't the only wide receiver with size in this Elgin lineup. 2027 big man [player_tooltip player_id='1680013' first='Tucker' last='New'] is another example of a prospect who is just as comfortable lining up as a traditional tight end or splitting out and lining up as a wide receiver. New was one one of the first Elgin standouts that stood out to us. And like the majority of the guys on this list, New is another prospect that has been waiting for his turn to stand out at the varsity level. New really impressed us with his size, catch ability and he was making some tough catches in traffic and finishing the play through contact. Elgin has the potential to be incredibly balanced and New is another weapon for Elgin's passing attack this season.
