Defensive Backs Who Made a Statement at the PRZ Combine

Just a few hours removed from the PA Combine Series, one thing is clear – Pennsylvania has some serious talent in the secondary. While I expected strong performances from a few familiar names, I was even more impressed by the number of under the radar athletes who stepped up and made their mark. Here are the top six standouts from the event. If you're not familiar with them yet, you should be.    Jamall Price made a statement at the PRZ PA Combine, earning MVP honors with an impressive all around performance. Now known for his elite footwork, Price showcased quick, responsive feet both off the snap and in open space, giving him the ability to mirror even the shiftiest receivers at the combine. Jamall's fluid hip movement made transitions seamless, letting him pivot and turn without losing momentum, a crucial skill needed for staying in the pocket of a receiver on deep routes.   As the day progressed, Price only got sharper, catching the attention of the coaches with each rep. His ability to turn and run downfield consistently set him apart from the competition. By the end of the day, it was clear why he was a standout; a blend of technique and athleticism that earned him well deserved MVP recognition.     Teegan entered the PRZ PA Combine with high expectations, and he didn't disappoint. Teegan lived up to the buzz and ended the day as a Top Performer. Standing head and shoulders above many of his peers, he leveraged his size to dominate smaller wideouts, effortlessly high pointing the ball to snatch it out of the air.   Beyond his physical advantages, Teegan's technical prowess and football IQ were on full display. He showcased excellent awareness in the back end of the secondary, reacting to the receivers with precision. On shorter routes, he demonstrated impressive body control, decelerating with ease and squaring up to meet receivers, effectively shutting down their momentum.   With a high ceiling and a knack for making plays, Teegan validated his pre-event hype, cementing his status as one of the day's standout defensive backs.     Originally signed up as a receiver, Mekhi quickly gained attention during individual drills at the PRZ PA Combine, ultimately making his mark as a standout defensive back. Known throughout PA as an explosive athlete, Mekhi showcased the quickest hips of the event, fluidly covering vertical routes and transitioning on a dime.   Mekhi was electric in his ability to change directions, digging his toes into the turf and reversing course with remarkable speed, making it a challenge for receivers to create separation. In coverage, Mekhi's aggressive style paid off, consistently disrupting passing lanes and breaking up throws heading his direction. Mekhi proved to not only be one of the Top Performing defensive backs, but one of the top athletes from the entire event.     David was another defensive back that gained traction as the day progressed. Shining once the live drills kicked off against the wide receivers, David showed he is a true competitor and never backs down from a battle. With a classic safety build, David proved himself to be a reliable last line of defense, shutting down receivers in open space and making it tough for QBs to have success downfield.   David is a gritty, aggressive player that brought a physical edge to the defensive back group. If the pads were on and full contact was allowed, he might have walked away with MVP honors. One of the day's highlights was his impressive interception where he high pointed the ball and came down with it on his back, maintaining control for a big time catch.     Lawrence proved himself on the field Saturday afternoon, earning Top Performer honors as a tall, physically imposing cornerback. With a sprinter's build and a massive wingspan, he stands out as a prominent figure in the secondary. Logan's long arms and reach make him a natural ball hawk, contesting passes with ease.   Despite his height, Lawrence can change direction quickly for a player of his size, mirroring receivers and reacting to breaks without hesitation. As he continues to add size to his frame, his potential to become an elite, shutdown cornerback is undeniable.     Logan, a watchlist player in Pennsylvania, solidified his status as a top prospect with a standout performance at the PRZ PA Combine. Logan started the day with a showcasing in the 40 yard dash, looking silky smooth in his strides.   In live drills, Logan's physicality and awareness were on full display. He forced a fumble with a well timed punch out, earning applause from all of the other DBs. Logan also showed he can quickly reaction to a receiver's movement and has the potential to quickly bring a play to an end in the open field. While he occasionally overcommitted when pursuing routes, leading to a few misreads, Logan's natural athleticism gives him a high ceiling as he continues to refine his game.
