After claiming the Class A state championship, the Tri-Center Trojans look primed to run it back with a great core of returning players. One player who is set to take an even bigger step forward in 2025 is sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1654026' first='Jayden' last='Johnson'] who tallied 50.5 tackles, seven TFLs, three sacks, a fumble recovery, and an interception returned for a touchdown. The most impressive part of Jayden's game is his versatility, possessing the size that fits the mold of a S/OLB hybrid, with the physicality to even step up near the line of scrimmage. Johnson's football IQ also really stood out with his ability to call out adjustments and top-tier instincts when triggering pass/run. Jayden's closing speed and tireless pursuit help him flow to the ball very naturally and put himself in a spot to make a play. Super high ceiling here with the upside of playing nearly anywhere on the defense.

Nodaway Valley's [player_tooltip player_id='1654031' first='Caleb' last='Christensen'] had quite the breakout season after leading his defense in tackles as a sophomore. The Wolverines' prospect racked up an impressive 51.5 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. My best way to describe Caleb's game is that it's calculated chaos because he does a great job reading and analyzing what he sees from the offense before pouncing. He has a quick trigger with an explosive first step that can send him flying downhill to make plays, while also taking smart pursuit angles, and is effective at making the stop once he gets to his spot. Solid size at 6'3”, 200 pounds, with room to continue filling out his frame.

Here's a bit of a sleeper that is new to my radar! Clinton's [player_tooltip player_id='1654034' first='Jordan' last='Gruhn'] is an intriguing pass-catcher who looks like he could be a flex TE/WR at the next level. As a sophomore, Jordan caught 26 receptions for 279 yards and four receiving touchdowns. My biggest takeaway from watching Jordan's tape was how versatile he is as a receiver, showing that he's comfortable lining up anywhere across the formation and has the size to matchup well with most defenders. His ability to be moved inside or outside allows him to attack all levels of the field, displaying that he can be a deep-threat, jump ball receiver who can stretch the field and be a reliable target going over the middle of the field. Gruhn does a good job finding and filling in the empty pockets in the coverage and makes himself readily available for his QB. He's strong at the catch point and has the athleticism to adjust to the ball.

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1654030' first='Jayon' last='Preston-Grady'] is a player who, surprisingly, slipped through my radar at the last update. The Fort Dodge defender had a sophomore campaign with 33.5 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Playing on the defensive line, Jayon brings an aggressive mindset to the trenches that has made him a handful for opposing linemen to contain. He quickly gets off the ball and keeps his hands locked and ready to explode through his opponent's chest. Once he's made his initial punch, Jayon works his hands inside and can use his strong base to bull rush linemen off their spots. He also showed that he can use different hand techniques/pass rush moves to disengage from blocks and work his way into the backfield. Preston-Grady also had several plays where he flashed excellent bend when rushing off the edge.

Sibley-Ocheyedan's [player_tooltip player_id='1654038' first='Gage' last='Greenfield'] is a prospect who I believe has the tools to develop into one of the next great Iowa linemen in the upcoming seasons. Right off the bat, Gage passes the eye test with next-level size at 6'5”, 320 pounds. He also moves very well for his size, showing that he can perform different blocks and climb up to the second level to clear out defenders. Greenfield also showed upside in the defensive line, showing that he can clog up running lanes effectively while still providing a consistent inside pass rush. Watch out for Gage as he fine-tunes his game… monster in the making!
