He has good size (6'5) and shows excellent strength. When he locks onto defenders, he does a good job driving them off the ball. He is good as a run blocker because he fires off the ball quickly and shows excellent fundamentals as an offensive tackle. He also shows a good ability to drive defenders downfield with his run-blocking ability. He is moved all over the field as a tight end. He plays both as a wing off the tackle and as a slot receiver. He also moved around in motion. At the various positions, he shows a good ability to get open. He runs good routes and usually finds the opening in the zone. He also catches the ball well and does a good job after the catch by gaining extra yards. Barrett's ability to move around and catch the ball in space is impressive. His ability to block interior defensive linemen is excellent. He shows good strength and does a good job of driving them off the ball. His best trait, though, at the center position, is his ability to pull. In high school football, you do not find many centers who can pull, and it is especially rare to see a center pull and block at a high level like Slover does. His ability to pull and kick out defensive ends is excellent and opens up many run-game options for McDevitt. In both positions, he does a good job in coverage. At the safety position, he does a good job of dropping deep and taking away anything thrown over the top. It's similar when he plays the cornerback position, as he has good coverage skills. In run support, he does a good job of making tackles in the open field. He might not be the most physical tackler, but he sticks his nose in there to make tackles and is usually effective. The 1st two plays of his film show his athletic ability. On the 1st play, he scoops up a fumble, races to the other side of the field, and makes multiple defenders miss in route for a long fumble return touchdown. On the 2nd play, he took a kickoff return and returned it for a touchdown. In both plays, he showed his speed and elusiveness.  He was used as a running back and as a wide receiver last year. At both positions, he does a good job when in the open field by running past the defense in the open field. Then, on defense, he is a match-up piece that was used as a strong safety and as a free safety.
