We're well into the offseason, and we're keeping things going ahead of spring workouts and summer practices. In a new series that will run concurrently with some of our other cornerstone content, like my community film room series or Matt Morrow's county-by-county Deep Dives, we're looking at what some of our 2028 players (both ranked and unranked) did as freshmen. I started with the Charlotte area quarterbacks and then hit the guys in the Piedmont area between Charlotte and West Raleigh.

Here, I'm expanding to prospects in the eastern part of the state, from Raleigh to the coast.

An all-conference selection as a freshman, El-Amin burst onto the scene in the fall with an impressive season. He does an excellent job of spreading the ball around to his playmakers, putting the ball in a spot that maximizes yards after the catch. El-Amin's arm talent is excellent, and his upside is impressive. As he continues to develop, he's a guy to watch as a potential riser in the rankings.

Robinson was thrust into a difficult situation as a freshman, but responded well. He throws well on the run and does well to avoid pressure and get the ball out of his hand. He struggled at times with decision-making, but the interception numbers should come down as he continues to develop. I'm looking for him to run a bit more next season as he looks to refine his play and continue to improve.

Coro spent most of the year on junior varsity, where he put up some excellent numbers for Holly Springs. In nine games, he threw for nearly 1,500 yards and 22 touchdowns. He shows good touch in layering his throws between levels of coverage and throws a nice, catchable deep ball. We're excited to see him continue to develop.

Crisp spent a year developing behind a Duke signee, but flashed when he saw the field. He's an excellent runner who makes good decisions in the zone read game. He was mainly used a change-of-pace running quarterback, but when asked to throw, he showed a willingness to be patient and let routes develop. He's a guy who could be a star once he gets to start.

A two-sport athlete, Ammons was all over the field for Lakewood as a freshman, playing both quarterback and free safety. In Lakewood's run-heavy system, he was an efficient passer, averaging close to nine yards per attempt and throwing for seven touchdowns. He was also a threat on the ground, adding 247 yards and five touchdowns. An excellent athlete, Ammons has a bright future ahead of him.
