Nobody can reach perfection, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't chase it. We have seen plenty of teams reach perfection at the end of the season by going 14-0 and bringing home the gold ball. That is only done when a group of special athletes come together and do everything they can to help build that perfect unit. We are going to use that same line of thinking and team up the elite traits that several defensive linemen from across Wisconsin have shown and create the perfect DL prospect. A lineman with elite size, length, strength, get off/burst, hand use, flexibility, and rush moves. The athletes in today's article are special and need to be on the radar and high up the recruiting boards of college programs. Let's get into the lab and build our recruit!

There is no shortage of elite frames in the defensive trenches across the great state of Wisconsin. So this became a very difficult choice, but in the end Middleton's [player_tooltip player_id='1209224' first='Torin' last='Pettaway'] is the perfect frame to build our perfect DL prospect around. He checks in at 6'5" 290 lbs, yet he is able to play all across the line because of the tools within that huge frame. Because of that we had to go with his frame as our base for our perfect DL prospect.

Length Build

To fully maximize the talent that our perfect DL prospect can have from just his frame build we need an athlete with elite length. Mason has length and then some on his 6'5" frame. The kid understands how to use it to his advantage as well. Throughout his highlights you consistently see the separation he maintains when battling a lineman. When a lineman can't get in close to control you it gives the DL a huge advantage in the 1 on 1 battle. Mason makes sure that advantage is on his side at one of the best rates I have seen. Our perfect DL recruit needs to have his length and use of that length.

Strength Build

For the past few offseason, one of my favorite things to see is the impressive lifts of [player_tooltip player_id='526514' first='Robby' last='Kedrowicz']. Like the time he took 500 lbs for 10 clean reps. Robby also was our natural selection for this part of the DL build because of how well you can see that strength translate to the field. Watch through his senior highlights and you will see him control the line of scrimmage, hold his ground, collapse the pocket with a bull rush, or toss his IOL to the side on his way to making a tackle. We need our perfect DL to be able to hold his ground or win with power. Give him Robby's power and we are set at that building block.

Get Off/First Step Build

You might not initially expect to see an IDL when picking the best first step quickness to build our perfect DL around. However, Reggie is not your typical IDL. His first step gives him a massive advantage in his battles in the trenches. He is able to instantly put the OL at bad leverage positions, which allows Reggie to beat them even easier. Reggie has also shown he can fly right through a gap before the OL can get a hand on him. He was impossible for an OL to reach because he got into the backfield too quickly. Another major bonus having Kloehn in this spot is the senior does a great job of turning that quickness into power on contact. We need our perfect DL to come off the line like him.

Flexibility Build

If we can have our defensive lineman with the size, length, strength, and get off that we have built so far also play with the flexibility of [player_tooltip player_id='1225613' first='Jaydon' last='Lanser'] off the edge then we truly will be on the path to perfection. I love the way that Jaydon rushes the edge. He can so easily change pad levels, dip underneath an OT while running the loop, and get himself to angles that give him a leverage advantage but not lose his balance or footing. That is a special trait to have at your disposal while rushing at full speed. We need our Perfect DL Build to include the bend and flexibility of Jaydon off the edge.

Pass Rush Moves Build

This was one of the easier choices while building this perfect DL prospect. He needs to be able to pass rush like [player_tooltip player_id='1051941' first='Liam' last='Shaw']. Not only because of the massive production that Liam had (leading the state in sacks), but because of the versatility in how he attacks. Liam has strong hands to club or swipe aside the hands of OL. He has the speed to run the loop. He has a strong, quick rip move to get through his man. The power is also there to run through blockers either on a bull rush or after getting himself the angle or leverage advantage with his initial hand fighting move. Liam is a relentless pass rusher, and it is exactly what we want as a part of our perfect DL build.

To put a bow on our perfect DL build we want to have an athlete who has all the tools, but still hasn't hit his ceiling. An athlete who produces, but still has his best football ahead of him. Our perfect DL recruit needs to have the tools above and the potential for even more. There isn't a DL in WI with more potential to tap into than sophomore edge/DE [player_tooltip player_id='1083269' first='Isaac' last='Miller']. Miller helped his team get to State this season with his 43 tackles, 5 TFLs, and 3 sacks. The college level believes in his high ceiling also as Isaac already holds 3 FBS offers. If we can have our perfect DL have upside in his game like Isaac does, then we truly are on the path to perfection.
