Detroit MLK State Championship Scouting Report

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Always a powerhouse, Detroit MLK makes it to yet another State Championship game. This is a younger team than usual and a little less experienced than usual. Still, there are a few certified stars, plus several great role players. Later in the game, I watched him for a full drive. In the six plays, Christian had several impressive pass blocks- good footwork, anchor, and didn't let a man free. Even when his QB scrambled outside, Christian kept looking for people to block. At the end of that drive, Christian had a textbook reach block, perfectly sealing the DE inside for a nice gain. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I'm excited to see what Christian is able to do this offseason! He finished the game with 93 yards and 2TDs on 14 touches. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Dukes did his usual thing but without a ton of explosive plays. He was bottled up pretty good for most of the game, but Dukes just kept on making athletic plays in tight space. Most of the time, he'd juke a defender or two before being tackled for a short gain. In the first half, Darryl went 6-12 for 57 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT - plus around 30 yards rushing (I forgot to check until Q3). </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">In half #2, Darryl went 4-6 passing, 54 yards, with another 77 (total game) yards on the ground. He seemed to play with a lot more decisiveness passing, and chose his rushing lanes well. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Darryl showcased why he's a D1 prospect despite the loss. I watched him for an entire dive (7 total plays), and he was excellent.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One play in particular caught my attention- a power (inside) run from Zeeland West blown up by Gregory after he shoves the guard out of the way. I rarely see DTs with that kind of skill against down blocks. But wow- his statsheet is impressive. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Nine tackles- six of them being solo. Plus, he's still got a year left. From my all-22 tape, Wheeler was the best LB when it came to getting off of blocks and laying out for tackles.
