Mallard Creek at Hough - Offensive Standouts

The Hough Huskies put their stamp on being the best team in the Charlotte Metro Area with a strong 33-0 shutout victory over the Mallard Creek Mavericks this past Friday Night. There were several standout players from both teams from an offensive perspective, and we will take a look at their performances in this article.    Trey played an efficient game, running for two short touchdown runs and making the key throws that kept the chains moving consistently throughout the game. Trey's two runs came off of zone read action and he showed some nice burst coming off the zone fake into the end zone on both scores. Once Trey found his rhythm in the passing game in the first half, he spread the ball around well to a variety of receivers on a mix of short and deep passes, showing good accuracy and touch to a lot of different areas on the field.     Jycen truly did it all in this game for the Huskies from a variety of spots. He lined up in the backfield and ran inside and outside zone, he caught passes in the flat from the backfield and from an H-Back position, and he helped out in run blocking for his teammates as well. Jycen does a great job as a receiver,.showing excellent hands and no wasted motion - as soon as he secures the catch he is immediately upfield and gaining as much yardage as possible. Jycen is the same way as a runner, north/south with no wasted motion. His catches were essential in getting first downs and keeping the offense on schedule.     On the offensive line, I really wanted to see how the Hough tackles handled the pass rush of the Mallard Creek defense. Broome was very impressive in pass protection, he didn't chase and let the pass rushers come to him, mirrored their movement with his footwork, and never let them turn the corner and affect the quarterback. His athleticism at his size was a lot of fun to watch. Broome was named an All-Conference player last year and he should be heavily considered once again this season, not to mention recruiting attention should be coming his way.     As I have written about Tyran before, this has been a major breakout season for him on the field. Tyran made a couple of impressive catches deep down the field that setup Huskies touchdown runs as both of them put Hough deep in the red zone. Tyran shows incredible hands and excellent concentration when the ball is in the air. Tyran also uses electric speed to create separation from both corners and safeties. Jamison is a powerful downhill runner who excels in short yardage situations and in relief of Anciso in the backfield. Jamison's two short touchdown runs showed off his power in the running game. Jamison also played some H-Back when Anciso was playing the main running back role.     Kandler was very impressive in both his kicks and punts. Early in the game before the Hough offense got going, his punting really helped flip the field and keep Mallard Creek buried deep in their own territory. Kandler also made a short field goal with plenty of leg to spare. Kandler had some impressive kickoffs as well, notching several touchbacks and keeping Mallard Creek's dangerous return unit out of the game.     Christian had the biggest play from scrimmage for the Mavericks on the night, a big run off of the left side of the offensive line which got the Mavericks briefly into the red zone. Christian is one of the fastest players in the state from the running back spot and is a threat to go the distance anytime the ball touches his hands.     Curtis had a couple of good runs for first down yardage for the Mavericks in a tough overall game offensively. I really like Curtis's ability to get into space with speed and get in and out of the hole quickly.
