It's the month of October and that means it's time for a prospect ranking update! Throughout this month, we'll be updating each class ranking and following up those updates with in-depth breakdowns on a ton of prospects in each class. Last week, we kicked things off with the 2028 Watchlist. This week, we continue our updates with the 2027 class. The ranking now features the Top 75 Sophomores In Oklahoma. Throughout the week, we've also had a ton of prospect breakdowns. In this breakdown, we're taking a look at the top five prospects that are listed as "athletes" right now. These guys are prospects that can impact the game in a variety of ways.

Putnam City standout [player_tooltip player_id='1297663' first='Gabriel' last='Osborne'] is a prospect that we've been very high on since we heard about him during the spring. And it was because of what Osborne was doing on the basketball floor. We took a look at Osborne's football film from his freshman season and while it was limited, what we did see, we really liked. And it's not surprising to us to see Osborne starting to gain the attention of D1 coaches as he picked up his first offer earlier this fall. Whether it's on offense, defense or special teams, Osborne has proven that he can make a lot of really good things happen. The Putnam City standout is going to be a name to watch for the Pirates for the next two and a half seasons.

There are several 2027 prospects that we are very excited about moving forward and Del City's [player_tooltip player_id='1035154' first='Kaleb' last='Blackwolf'] is one of them. Right now, Blackwolf is knocking on the door of being a top 15 overall prospect and it wouldn't surprise us at all if the Del City two-way player ended up being a borderline top five overall prospect. Whether it's on offense as a running back or defense as a safety, Blackwolf brings the energy. We're definitely also benefitting from having just watched Blackwolf in person in the last month in a game in which he had a strong showing on offense, defense and special teams. Blackwolf had a breakout freshman season at El Reno and has gone to another level this fall with Del City.

The first of two Choctaw Yellowjackets on this breakdown is [player_tooltip player_id='1176238' first='Israel' last='Hammons'] and he's a very athletic prospect that can do a lot of things very well. When we got a chance to watch him in person back in the spring, he was working primarily at one of the cornerback spots. Hammons might just be a defensive back moving forward but for now, we have him listed as an athlete. His older brother was a standout running back for Guthrie a few years ago so Hammons has that playmaking ability in his DNA. But when you talk about Choctaw over the last few years, there's no doubt that they are on the shortlist of programs that are producing DBs at a high level. If Hammons can fit in with that group, he'll be on a good path.

Another Choctaw Yellowjacket to keep an eye on is [player_tooltip player_id='1035103' first='Titus' last='Hawk'] and he brings a ton of versatility to the football field. Listed at 6'7, Hawk is a hard prospect to miss and he's definitely a name to know moving forward for a couple sports. He's also a standout for Choctaw in baseball. On the football field, Hawk first got on our radar when he was listed as a quarterback. He's now listed as a tight end and gives the Yellowjackets a massive target in the passing game. He's a terrific athlete that has a high ceiling and while it looks like his future as a prospect could be as a tight end, we're not closing the book on him possibly moving around to other spots on the gridiron. And don't overlook his work in baseball.

We've written about Mangum sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='916843' first='Remington' last='Laughlin'] a handful of times over the last year but it's strictly been as a quarterback. But now, we've moved the Mangum standout over to the athlete position because he is playing a variety of positions and producing at a high level this season for the Tigers. He's seen plenty of playing time at the quarterback position but he's also moved around and produced in the run game and as a pass catcher. Laughlin is also one of the team's top players when it comes to tackles for loss. We think that Laughlin is a guy to know within this class but we definitely didn't see this change coming. But there's no denying that he's produced at a high level in a variety of ways.
