Several games across the state were cut short in Week 2 due to storms, but there were plenty of playmakers on Friday. Here, we break down a few of the guys who were standouts in Week 2.

Week 2 Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1018711' first='Tylik' last='Mitchell'], RB, Southern Nash

Mitchell moved up in our most recent rankings update and so far that's been a good decision on our part. He's been electric through two games, scoring nine touchdowns. This week, he was efficient, racking up 181 yards on just 11 carries and three touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass with one of his two catches out of the backfield, a part of his game he's improved in 2024.

[player_tooltip player_id='1365426' first='Jariel' last='Cobb'], RB, Reidsville

Cobb was unstoppable Friday, gaining over 10 yards a rush and over 20 yards a catch en route to a 278-yard night. He's made tremendous strides as a receiver, catching six passes through two games despite coming into the season with just eight career receptions.

[player_tooltip player_id='752104' first='Jaylen' last='Hewitt'], QB, Havelock

We heard great things about Hewitt before the season, who recently transferred to Havelock from West Carteret, but through two games, he's surpassed even our highest expectations. He threw for 358 yards and six touchdowns in Week 2 just one week after throwing for 357 and four touchdowns. While we expected him to sling it around, I'm not sure I would have predicted him to be at the top of the North Carolina passing leaderboards.

[player_tooltip player_id='945238' first='Tyran' last='Evans'], WR, Hough

Evans was on our radar before the season, but we didn't realize just how explosive he'd be this season. He doesn't have a ton of targets compared to other top receivers, but his damage has been done in chunks. A week after scoring on a 66-yard reception, Evans had an 89-yard touchdown catch as part of a four catch, 144-yard day Friday against a good Myers Park secondary. He has just eight catches this season, but five touchdowns.

[player_tooltip player_id='1153984' first='Bryce' last='Johnston'], TE/Edge, South Caldwell

Johnston has elite size and strength and has displayed that on both sides of the ball for South Caldwell. His biggest impact has been at edge, where he's had four sacks this season. On Friday, he had two sacks and six tackles for loss in a fantastic display defensively. Offensively, he only caught one pass, but it took almost the entire defense to take him down.

Cade Mixon, LB/RB, Arendell Parrott Academy

An 8-man standout, Mixon used to play both ways, but has focused on the defensive side of the ball this year, where he's been awesome. Through three games, he's first nationally among 8-man players with 50 tackles, bouyed by a 26-tackle performance on Friday. He was everywhere and should be recognized.

Harley Moyer, DB, Union Pines

It's hard enough to have multiple interceptions in one game, but it's even more rare to do it in back-to-back weeks. Friday, Meyer added six tacklesmin addition to his two picks, helping Union Pines shut out Northwood, the team's second-consecutive shutout victory to start the year.
