Top Performances From District 3: Week 2

Making his 1st start he was the difference maker in the win. He rushed 117 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns. Then he threw for 236 yards and a touchdown. He did this in a 35-33 overtime win over their rival McDevitt. An impressive showing for Lewis and I expect he play even better going forward.     Josh Smith is someone I never heard of before Friday night's game. Then he exploded on Friday night by scoring 4 touchdowns. He scored on a rushing touchdown from 30 yards out and caught touchdown passes of 52, 49, and 6 yards. Smith is a home run hitter every time he touches the ball. He has elite speed and he can score anytime he touches the ball. Smith is a talented player who should be remembered going forward this season.     [player_tooltip player_id='819713' first='Christian' last='Joy'] is a good running back and with Trinity 0-1 on the year, they needed to ride Joy to victory Friday night against East Pennsboro. Joy ran for over 200 yards and 4 touchdowns as he was the difference-maker in the game. Joy is a difference-maker at running back. He has a physical running style mixed with good athleticism to make a difference.     Jonathan Shay is a big-time player who does it all for Annville-Cleona. On Friday night against Hanover Shay was the key reason for the win. He threw a touchdown pass, had 162 yards rushing, and an eye-popping 5 touchdowns. Shay is a big physical athlete who can do anything on the football field. He also chipped in with 10 tackles on defense as well. In Friday's 49-7 win over Boyertown get rushed for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns. He rushed for 3 long touchdowns including two over 60 yards. Zandier is a true playmaker every time he touches the ball. He has rushed for 198 yards and 5 touchdowns as he has been the key player for the 2-0 start for South Western. He is a physical runner who is hard to bring down but also has a good burst and speed to run by defenders. Rollman is a good running back.     [player_tooltip player_id='941162' first='Luke' last='Frey'] is a difference-maker at quarterback and he showed it off last week with one of the biggest wins in District 3 when New Oxford beat Cocalico 21-0. Cocalico the two-time 5A District 3 Champion was shut out in a surprised defeat. Frey was the biggest reason why when he threw for two touchdowns in the win. New Oxford improved to 2-0 on the year and Frey is one of the biggest reasons why.     [player_tooltip player_id='1520475' first='Derek' last='Katch'] and Hempfield needed a big win to avoid going 0-2 on the year. Katch stepped up to beat York High Friday night. Playing his 2nd game at quarterback Katch threw for 167 yards and a touchdown. He also shook off a pick 6 to throw that touchdown pass, which was a big play for 67 yards. He also rushed for 68 yards and 3 touchdowns. Katch is a good player and showed it Friday night.     [player_tooltip player_id='1054298' first='Wyatt' last='Ehrenzeller'] is someone I had not heard of before Friday night, but Ehtenzeller helped defeat Steelton-Highspire. It was Steelton's 1st loss in over 3 years. Ehrenzeller was a huge reason for the win. He had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown. He also helped overcome an early fumble to help them come back from being down 14-0 to come back for the win.     Madyx Gruber is a football player. He was moved to quarterback this year but also has been playing double duty as a defensive back. In Friday night's win over Plymouth-Whitemarsh Gruber threw a touchdown pass and had an interception he returned for a touchdown. Gruber also led Wilson in rushing with 58 yards. Gruber is a good player on both sides of the ball for Wilson.
