Last Season (12-1)

Last Season, East easily ran through Section V, with the only single-digit margin win coming against a tough Canandaigua team. It was not until meeting with Whitesboro from Section III that they ended up in the loss column, and it ended their season. Whitesboro was an extremely talented team last season with multiple big-impact seniors and were able to slow down the East run game and limit as much of their offense as they could. The season saw a strong Senior class bring home a sectional championship.

Top Prospect

Shepard returned to East after the season started last year after spending some of the season in California. He is one of the most dynamic playmakers in New York and had been one of East's top athletes in New York before he ever moved to California. Joining East through the season with all the playmakers, they had suppressed his role a little, but I saw him live at a 7v7, and with his tape from California and old New York stuff, Shepard can change a game on any given play.

Next Five Prospects

Tucker comes into the season as one of the state's top OLB/EDGE prospects. The Saint Francis commit will be one of the state's best playmaking LBs. With multiple seasons starting under his belt in which he doubled his production from year 1 to year 2 Tucker was amongst the state leaders in TFLs last season and you see on tape he has the athleticism and bend to evade blocks on the edge - he is physical at the point of attack and shows the closing speed to make plays moving sideline to sideline.

Another two-way player for East who has had significant varsity contributions, Green is the primary RB for East and plays DB as well; with the loss of Erv Wiggins at DB, he is a player who could step up defensively in coverage for East. For multiple seasons, he has put solid athleticism and two-way ability on film.

Hampton, a LB/RB prospect, was a really solid two-way performer for East. He started as a sophomore at LB and then added RB duties to his role last season. He ran for 300+ yards and had 72 solo tackles, 6 TFLs, and 2 INTs. More productive at LB, Hampton shows athleticism and defensive instincts to make plays for East consistently.

Moore returns 7 Sacks, 11 TFLs, and 40 Solo tackles to the East defensive line. He is their strongest interior presence on the defensive line. At 6'2 230, Moore adds some size to their D-Line, and on tape, you see a good upfield burst, and a lot of the plays he makes, he wins with that burst or the ability to shed blocks.

Abdi is one of the top kickers in New York, and last season made 64 extra points and went 6/7 on field goals with a long of 38. While a lot of their games last season did not feature too many close calls, having a quality kicker can give East a leg up against a really tough schedule this season.

Breakout Player

Benjamin comes from Rochester Prep, where he played the QB position, and while he will play QB again for East, he is more of a big athlete who, at the next level, could live at LB or even RB/H-Back/TE. Benjamin has some burst and explosiveness as he moves. While he won't bring the arm that Zymier Jackson had, Benjamin will offer the ability to run the QB downhill and between the tackles, while being able to keep defenses honest based on some of the quality throws he made last year on tape. Rochester Prep did not have much success as a program, but Benjamin put some solid stuff on tape as a Junior.

Names To Know

Name

Position

Year

Notes

[player_tooltip player_id='505526' first='Jaylyn' last='Melton']

ATH

2025

Transfer from UPrep - With the losses they have, I think it is inevitable that there will be some bumps in the road for East, but they will be contenders again for a Section Championship. The amount of playmakers they lose makes me a little hesitant to say they will get further than last year, but they could easily be the most talented team in Class A in Rochester yet again. Matchup of the season in all of Western/Central/Upstate New York may be on 9/27 against Monroe.

3 Things Going For The Eagles

They return a several starting lineman on both sides of the ball

They return two of their top RBs (Green + Hampton), and the new QB Benjamin can be a big part of the run game

[player_tooltip player_id='406848' first='Kelvin' last='Shepard'] will have a full season in Rochester and is one of the most explosive athletes in Rochester.

1 Area To Be Concerns

Losing one of the top QBs in New York, in addition to the top four WRs from last season, Perrion Williams, DeAndre Leonard, Anthony Diaz, and two-way star Erv Wiggins, is an entire passing offense that needs to be replaced.

The Last Word

I think it is fair to say that East will be a major contender in Class A this season, even with some of the major losses at skill positions. They return a good core of linemen that will be an asset to a potentially run-heavy offense this season. I think if Benjamin and the offense can not just make plays in the short passing game like I expect them to but get vertical at times like Zymier Jackson was so good at, the offense will be in a really solid spot while defensively, the talent they return at LB can go a long way through the season. It's hard to see them go further than last year, but I still would expect them to be Class A title favorites.
