21. Kelvin Shepard

5’9, 170 pounds. 3.5 GPA. Currently ranked as a Top Ten senior two-way player in New York. Unaware of his recruiting situation, yet his Twitter shows he caught fire a couple of years back.

As far as his performance goes, I can’t have a Top 40 list without he and Nasir Kelly somewhere on it. Pooty Cunningham and Trent Buttles were often spreading the ball around to several targets. Watching back some of the footage, I could make an easy case for Shepard being CTC’s best target. Kelly and others are certainly in that discussion, with Kelly holding a spot higher on this list, yet I can’t ignore the three-way capabilities Shepard provided this offense with. Unreal hands, great change of direction ability, was able to outrun kids in a one-hand-touch setting. Would love to learn more about his current recruiting situation.

Shepard returned to East after the season started last year after spending some of the season in California. He is one of the most dynamic playmakers in New York and had been one of East’s top athletes in New York before he ever moved to California. Joining East through the season with all the playmakers, they had suppressed his role a little, but I saw him live at a 7v7, and with his tape from California and old New York stuff, Shepard can change a game on any given play.

Kelvin Shepard Kelvin Shepard Kelvin Shepard 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH/WR East | 2025 State NY played from the slot and a little from the backfield for CTC and he was dangerous after the catch but also showcased some really elite route running within 10-yards of the LOS. Shepard was often Newman’s check down and he did a good job of transitioning shorter passes into extra yards.

This is a straight burner and one the most talented WRs that I have scouted at the high school level so far. Kelvin Shepard Kelvin Shepard Kelvin Shepard 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH/WR East | 2025 State NY has so much play making ability in his game that it screams off the film. It is so much fun to watch Kelvins film, and it makes you want to see more. Shepard is from East High School and spoke to me about how he wants to evolve into a great leader in 2023. Putting his teammates and himself in position for greatness is such a huge goal that Shepard has set for himself this upcoming season.

Shepard will be a junior this upcoming season, and he is a WR that can be utilized all over the field, even at the RB spot. Kelvin was sent on many jet sweeps where he was able to rely on is explosive speed to gain large amounts of yardage. When Shepard has the ball in his hands, his outstanding ball carrier vision was showcased when being able to cut up field into the open lane. So many times, multiple defenders would fail to bring Shepard down in open space because of how quick he is. The ability to cut on a dime and use his showcase of moves to gain that extra yard is present. There is so much fight and willingness to find the end zone in Shepard’s game.

The natural talent to make big-time catches deep down the field in traffic popped all over his film. Being able to track the ball over his shoulder was put on display time after time. When releasing off the LOS, defensive backs would have a tough time trying to keep up with Shepard when running simple 9 routes. So many times, Kelvin was able to get open so quickly because of his fluid ability to run sharp routes. Kelvin stated to me that he wants to double his stats from this past year, lead his team in receiving yards again, and to finally lead East High to a championship.
