It doesn't get much better than a state championship rematch and number one versus number two in Class 3A. That's what we got to see as top-ranked Lincoln Christian went on the road and took down second-ranked Heritage Hall 28-20 in a rematch of last year's state title game. Like last year's title clash, the Chargers jumped out early and led this one 20-7 at halftime. But the Bulldogs never felt out of it and limited mistakes in the second half and their defense was absolutely lights out in the final two quarters.

You could tell it was week one because both teams had plenty of penalties and at times, it simply looked sloppy. But Then you also saw two of the best teams in this class so there were also fireworks and some brilliant plays from both sides of the match-up. Lincoln Christian outscoring Heritage Hall 21-0 in the second half should give the Bulldogs plenty of momentum heading into the rest of the non-district slate while the Chargers will now focus on bouncing back.

Below, we take a look at the top performers from both sides of this state championship rematch. We also have highlights and postgame reaction from head coach Jerry Ricke as well as senior linebacker mason Torres and senior fullback and defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='884992' first='Dawson' last='Fullingim']. It wouldn't surprise us at all if we end up seeing these two meet up again in November or December and sign us up for that rematch.

[player_tooltip player_id='1101281' first='Carter' last='Ricke'] - Junior Quarterback

Friday night was our first chance to watch junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1101281' first='Carter' last='Ricke'] in action at the quarterback position. The Bulldogs have an unbelievable history of quarterback play over the last decade and it looks like they have another guy that will be able to lead this balanced offensive attack for at least the next two seasons. We were impressed with Ricke's composure in the backfield and there were some mistakes but his two interceptions were to arguably the best player on the field Friday night. And honestly, both of them were simply fantastic plays by that player. Ricke also impressed us with his ability to tuck the ball and run.

[player_tooltip player_id='884992' first='Dawson' last='Fullingim'] - Senior Fullback/Defensive Lineman

It's hard to pick just one but if we had to pick an MVP for Lincoln Christian but if we had to it might be senior [player_tooltip player_id='884992' first='Dawson' last='Fullingim'] after the night he had on both sides of the ball. First of all, Fullingim was a big part of the Lincoln Christian front seven that absolutely terrorized Heritage Hall's quarterbacks. He had a solid day on defense but he also turned around and was a problem on offense. He would become a power runner that was moving the pile on almost every carry. He finished the night with a pair of touchdowns on the ground, including the one in the fourth quarter that really put this one away. He also caught multiple passes in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1292096' first='Kylan' last='Schultheis'] - Senior Wide Receiver

Like we mentioned with Ricke, the story of this Lincoln Christian victory centered around the defense but the offense certainly showed flashes of performing at a high level. Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1292096' first='Kylan' last='Schultheis'] emerged as the top target in the Lincoln Christian passing attack and he became Ricke's top target throughout the week one victory. He caught a touchdown pass on the first drive of the second half and that pulled Lincoln Christian within a possession of the Chargers. The Lincoln Christian senior would finish the game with five catches for nearly 100 yards and that important touchdown to give the defending champs momentum.

[player_tooltip player_id='867298' first='Mason' last='Torres'] - Senior Linebacker

Last week, senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='867298' first='Mason' last='Torres'] was the leader of a Lincoln Christian defense that shut out Victory Christian. This week, he was back at it as one of the best players on the football field. He would finish the night with seven tackles, a sack and two interceptions. The second interception came on Heritage Hall's last drive where they could have tied the game in the final seconds. Instead, Torres made the play on defense and the Bulldogs would get out of OKC with a big victory. Torres came into this season as a player to watch in Class 3A and the same could be said about the defense and after two games, both are certainly living up to the hype.

[player_tooltip player_id='1035134' first='Rain' last='Ragland'] - Sophomore Defensive Lineman

Our final defensive standout (and we probably could have named a few more) is sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1035134' first='Rain' last='Ragland'] along the defensive line. Like we mentioned with Fullingim, in the second half, the Bulldogs were able to bring pressure on the Chargers by just rushing three or four guys and when you're able to do that, it puts the opponent in a very bad spot. Ragland is coming off a breakout season as a freshman and he's gotten off to a fantastic start. He had two sacks on the night and both of them came in the second half. Ragland is yet another part of this Lincoln Christian front seven that is going to be a nightmare for opponents this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='434307' first='Barrett' last='Travis'] - Senior Running Back

Heritage Hall senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='434307' first='Barrett' last='Travis'] was one of our players to watch coming into Friday night's game and he certainly didn't disappoint. He was Heritage Hall's leading rusher and had a solid night running the football and he even made some plays for the Chargers in the passing game. He caught a touchdown as time expired in the second quarter to give Heritage Hall a 20-7 lead at halftime. This came after he had his longest run on the night to get the Chargers inside the Lincoln Christian 10-yard line. It was a tough night for the Chargers against Lincoln Christian's defense but Travis still was able to produce at a high level.

[player_tooltip player_id='206345' first='Conner' last='Quintero'] - Junior Quarterback

We mentioned junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='206345' first='Conner' last='Quintero'] earlier in the week and how we were excited to see what he could do underneath the Friday night lights. We don't know how the numbers broke down but it felt like the junior got the majority of snaps but it was also close. And Quintero's first completion was one for the record books. Backed up inside his own one yard line, the Charger signal caller took the snap and launched a ball down the field and it would end up being a 99 1/2 yard touchdown pass. You literally can't do better than that for your first completion. We liked what we saw from him and he should improve quite a bit this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='587270' first='Jerrod' last='Williams'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

Lincoln Christian got the win but Heritage Hall had the best player on the field Friday night. Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='587270' first='Jerrod' last='Williams'] was already on our radar as one of the top defensive backs in the state's 2026 class. But Williams proved that he could be much more as their leading receiver and overall playmaker. And he did it instantly. He was on the other end of that 99 1/2 yard touchdown reception from Quintero and he also caught another touchdown in the first half. He brought down two fantastic interceptions in or near the end zone to prevent Lincoln Christian points and had a fumble recovery. He was everywhere on Friday night and had a great game.
