Byrd is a smooth athlete for his size and a big and physical tight end that has the ideal frame + growth potential for the position as he moves through his prep and college career. He shows a huge catch radius and tracking abilities, strong hands in traffic and can stretch the field over the middle while very physical with the ball in his hands after the catch. He is a long strider that covers a ton of ground downfield, and is a true mismatch against smaller linebackers and safeties. He is also rated as a 3-star prospect and checks into our ranks as the number one receiver in this 2026 class, and inside the top ten overall. He is an elite route runner on both the outside or in the slot, and can get off press coverage with ease with a good release off the line and sudden twitch to get by pressed corners. Lewis also displays elite route running abilities, is very twitchy out of his breaks and tracks the ball well while able to make contested catches in traffic, break open field tackles and has open field speed to pull away when working vertical. He is coming off a stellar Sophomore season campaign where he threw for 1,400 yards with 15 touchdowns a 61% completion percentage. He is a big framed prospect with the ideal size for the position and is a true pocket passer with a big time arm downfield. He shows he can make quick decisions and move through his progressions quickly while able to fit the ball into tight windows with good zip on his throws with a quick/snappy release. Nelson also shows he can move well in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield under pressure and does a god job at throwing his receivers open and putting nice touch on the ball over the top. So far in his Junior season, he has packed on 20 pounds since last Fall, and shows strong hands at the POA, good leverage in the run game and creates immediate knock-back near the LOS while able to quickly recognize blocks. He is one of the most explosive playmakers in the state, and is a natural ball carrier that runs extremely hard for his size and is a twitchy runner with good vision in tight windows, cutback abilities and can make defenders miss in the hole with ease. He is also a natural pass catcher out of the backfield with good tracking abilities and consistent hands downfield and in the flats. Coming off his 2023 campaign rushing for 1,400+ yards and 18 touchdowns, he looked to pick up right where he left off in week 1, going for 200 APY against a stout Meridian defense and showing he is still the top back across the region. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
