The Lawton Eisenhower Eagles would go 5-5 and miss out on the playoffs in 2023 but there are definitely some silver linings to take away from that season. First off, the Eagles were missing arguably their best player for the year after their star running back suffered a knee injury early on in the 2023 campaign. Combine that with the fact that the Eagles were in arguably the toughest district in the state and definitely the toughest in Class 5A and we knew coming into the year that there would be a good team left on the outside of the playoffs. Unfortunately, that happened to be Lawton Eisenhower. The season began with a 3-1 start and the offense was rolling. They would drop three straight district games to Carl Albert, Bishop McGuinness and Piedmont and that would put them in a bad spot in the district standings. They would knock off Shawnee in week seven but a week nine loss to Guthrie would take them out of playoff contention. If you dropped last year's Lawton Eisenhower team in any other district in Class 5A, we like their chances to make the playoffs. They couldn't overcome the gauntlet and came up short of a playoff appearance. But now, the Eagles move into a new class and get that star running back returning to the lineup. The 2024 season is one that should see a big bounce back from Lawton Eisenhower.

2024 OUTLOOK

The Eagles bring back the majority of their starters in 2024 and look to be an instant impact team in Class 6A-2. Lawton Eisenhower is moving up from Class 5A and we think that the Eagles could immediately become a playoff team and the ceiling feels like it's higher than if they were still in Class 5A. We mentioned how the Eagles would get a boost from the return of their running back. They bring back six starters in total on the offensive side of the ball and the conversation should start with the running back position. The Eagles are going to have one of the best running backs in Class 6A-2 this season and he's going to be hungry to make up for lost time in 2024. The defense also brings back six starters and while they lose some key pieces from their front seven that signed to play college ball, they still bring back the majority of their guys. We like what the Eagles have on the line of scrimmage and in the secondary and if they can plug in some new faces into the unit, they could improve greatly from last year's squad. Then you look at the district that the Eagles are in and on paper, they definitely feel like a playoff team. The biggest question we have is just how far they can go in 2024. We think they will be in the playoffs but will they host a first round game? Will they threaten one of the top two seeds and get a first round bye? Only time will tell but we like the Eagles going into the 2024 season.

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1365064' first='Charlie' last='Crachte'] returns for his third season under center with the Lawon Ike offense. That experience alone makes him one of the quarterbacks to watch in Class 6A-2 football this season. Throw in the fact that Crachte is going to be leading an offense that has some outstanding playmakers and this is a Lawton Eisenhower offense that could be lighting up scoreboards. Last season, Crachte led a Lawton Ike offense that averaged a little over 30 points per game. This season, we think that average will go up and Crachte is the guy that will be guiding this unit throughout. We're looking forward to seeing how he looks as a senior this fall.

We really like what Lawton Eisenhower brings back on offense in terms of firepower. The QB is back, the RB is back and they have some playmakers at wide receiver. But nothing works on offense if the offensive line isn't playing at a high level. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='472323' first='Milo' last='Wyatt'] returns for the Eagles up front and he brings a ton of experience back and could end up being the leader of this unit this season. Wyatt has been a player that we've heard about since he was a freshman and now he's going into his junior season and looking to take that next step. He is a monster up front and it wouldn't surprise us if Wyatt ends up being one of the top guys at his position in 6A-2 this season.

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='479394' first='Rashaud' last='Hurt'] is that star running back we referred to earlier in the preview. The dynamic playmaker would tear his ACL as a junior and he is 100 percent and ready to roll this season. The last time we saw Hurt on the field and healthy, he was a very fun player to watch. He's definitely going to come into this season feeling like he has something to prove after missing almost all of last season and that's scary for the rest of Class 6A-2. And when we look at the 6A-2 landscape going into this fall, there aren't many running backs that should go ahead of him. He is near the top of the list of comeback players that we're ready to see how the story unfolds.

Senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='1159460' first='Serri' last='Sheridan'] is one of the more underrated players in Oklahoma's 2025 class. On offense, Sheridan is electric at the wide receiver position and he's going to be one of the more reliable targets to watch this season. Simply put, if you throw him the ball, more times than not, he finds a way to come down with the ball. And that's just a glimpse of what Sheridan can do on the football field. This offseason, he's also been working hard to improve his game on the defensive side of the ball at the cornerback position. No matter where Sheridan lines up on the field, we want to watch him because he has the potential to make something special happen on every play.

Aug. 30th - Lawton
Sept. 6th - AT Lawton MacArthur
- In week one, the Eagles will face another city rival in Lawton MacArthur and Eisenhower will be looking to lock up the city championship. If they can beat Lawton in week zero and then MacArthur in week one, the Eagles will be city champions for the first time in nearly two decades. 2006 was the last year that the Eagles beat both city rivals in the same year. And the Highlanders have had their number, winning 13 straight in the series with the last Lawton Ike win coming in 2010.
Sept. 12th - Carl Albert
Sept. 27th - AT Stillwater
- District play opens up in week four on the road and Lawton Eisenhower travels to face a Stillwater team that has been one of the top squads in Class 6A-2 for a while now. The Pioneers are coming off another state championship game appearance in 2023 and they won it all in 2022. For Lawton Eisenhower, this will feel like the ultimate measuring stick game to see where they stack up against the best in Class 6A-2. And if the Eagles were able to pull off the upset, they would be in the driver's seat for the district crown.
Oct. 4th - Southmoore
Oct. 11th - AT Putnam City
Oct. 18th - Piedmont
- Lawton Eisenhower will see familiar foe Piedmont in a week seven contest that will certainly have a lot of playoff implications. These two programs have been 5A district foes for the last eight years and now are both up in Class 6A-2. This series has been one-sided in favor of Piedmont, as they've won six of the last seven meetings, including the last five in a row. Lawton Ike fell 43-25 last season but a win here could be the difference in hosting a playoff game or going on the road and a win here could mean even more depending on the standings.
Oct. 24th - Northwest Classen
Nov. 1st - AT Choctaw
Nov. 8th - AT U.S. Grant

NOTABLE

As we mentioned earlier in the preview, Lawton Eisenhower has a great chance of making it back to the playoffs now that they are actually up a class. First off, six teams from a district make the playoffs but even if it was still just four qualifiers, we think the Eagles would have a good chance of punching their ticket to the postseason. If they are playoff bound this year, this will be the first year since 2017 and just the second time since 2011 that Lawton Ike has earned their way into the playoffs. They would participate in 2020 but that was the Covid-impacted season where everyone could play in the playoffs. And when you look at the Eagles and their history in the playoffs, they actually had more sustained success with playoff appearances when they were in the old 32-team Class 6A from 2000-2011.
