As we approach the end of August, the 2024 high school football season is finally here! With that in mind, we are currently in another round of rankings updates for the state of Kentucky. After already updating the classes of 2025 and 2026, the class of 2027 rankings update has now been officially published. With that being said, I wanted to take the next week or so to break down these rankings by position. After already covering the offensive side of the ball, I have now turned my attention to the defensive side of the ball. With the defensive line and linebackers already taken care of, here are our top defensive backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky.

[player_tooltip player_id='378835' first='Jordan' last='Haskins'] has established himself as one of the top overall players in the state in his class. Haskins had an impressive freshman year at corner for the Defenders. He showed the ability to drop into zone coverage and read route combinations effectively to put himself in a position to make a play. Haskins finished last season with one interception and several pass breakups in 14 games. He also finished his freshman year with 37 tackles and three tackles for loss. Jordan currently holds offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Marshall, Miami (OH), Toledo, Kent State, Ohio, Akron, and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Power 4 caliber prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='1217741' first='Allen' last='Evans IV'] is a defensive back who jumped onto our radar as a freshman. Evans lines up on the outside at corner where he shows great instincts in coverage. He does a great job of reading routes then breaking downhill with perfect timing to make a play on the ball when it is thrown his way. Evans currently holds offers from Kentucky and Louisville, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Power 4 caliber prospect with three years to continue to develop.

[player_tooltip player_id='1200643' first='Cohen' last='Finley'] is a player who played a key role for his team as a freshman. He lines up at safety where he is very reliable in pass coverage, showing the ability to read the quarterback then cover a ton of ground to make a play on the ball. Finley finished last season with three interceptions in 12 games. He also showed the ability to fill the lane and stop the run, finishing his freshman year with 95 tackles and two tackles for loss. Finley doesn't currently hold any offers but he has received some college interest and should be a player to continue to watch this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='400890' first='Sekou' last='Kamara'] is another defensive back who made an impact as a freshman. Kamara lines up at corner where he is very reliable in man coverage, showing the ability to open up and run with receivers to mirror their routes with ease. When the ball is thrown his way, he does a great job of breaking on it with perfect timing to make a play, finishing last season with two interceptions in 15 games. He also finished his freshman year with 59 tackles and four tackles for loss. Kamara doesn't currently hold any offers but he should be a player to keep an eye on heading into his sophomore season.

To wrap up our top five defensive backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1200645' first='Wyatt' last='Peters']. Peters lines up at safety where he has proven to be reliable against both the run and in coverage. He does a great job of filling the lane and making tackles in the open field against the run, finishing last season with 38 tackles and one tackle for loss in 10 games. Peters also came away with two interceptions, returning one of them for a touchdown as a freshman. Wyatt doesn't currently hold any offers but he should be a player to watch over the next few seasons.
