With the month of March coming to an end, the 2026 high school football offseason is in full force and we are in the midst of a new round of Prep Redzone rankings updates in the state of Kentucky. The latest class to get an update is the class of 2028, with our new Top 125 dropping last week. Now that these rankings have been released, I will be taking some time to break them down by position. After already covering the quarterbacks and running backs, here are our top wide receivers/tight ends in the class of 2028 in the state of Kentucky.

[player_tooltip player_id='871291' first='Avery' last='Thompson'] has clearly established himself as one of the top overall players in the state in his class. As a sophomore, Thompson led his team in receiving, catching 70 passes for 1,062 yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games. Thompson has elite athleticism and a high catch radius which gives him a huge advantage against opposing defensive backs in contested/jump ball situations. He has also shown the ability to use his speed and smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. Thompson also played a role on defense this past season, coming away with two interceptions. Avery currently holds a long list of Power 4 offers and I expect them to continue to pile up moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='2136575' first='Kingston' last='Dillard'] played a huge role in Owensboro's 5A state title run this past season. He finished his sophomore year as his team's leading receiver, hauling in 58 passes for 1,294 yards and 18 touchdowns in 15 games. Dillard is very impressive with the ball in his hands in open space and he has shown the elusiveness to make defenders miss and speed to run away from the defense to turn short passes into big gains at any given moment. He is also a dangerous deep threat out of the slot, using his speed to create easy separation. Dillard currently holds offers from Kent State, Troy, and Kentucky Wesleyan, and I expect more to come his way this offseason.

[player_tooltip player_id='1907206' first='Jakari' last='Matchem'] is coming off an outstanding sophomore season. He led his team in receiving with 80 receptions (school single-season record) for 1,239 yards and 21 touchdowns in 12 games. Matchem is a very skilled route runner, using smooth breaks in his routes to create separation with ease. He also has impressive speed which he uses to pose as a threat in the deep passing game and to pick up yards after the catch. Jakari also made an impact on defense as a sophomore, recording 24 tackles and three interceptions (tied for team lead). Matchem doesn't hold any offers yet but I wouldn't be surprised to see some come his way soon as he is a Division I caliber wide receiver prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='1743736' first='Chi' last='Poynter'] is another receiver who burst onto the scene as a sophomore. Poynter finished this past season as Bardstown's leading receiver, catching 55 passes for 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games. Chi is a very reliable jump ball threat as he has the athleticism to out jump opposing defensive backs along with the strong hands to bring in catches through contact. He is also dangerous after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness to turn short passes into big plays. Chi also scored two rushing touchdowns as a sophomore. Poynter holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky and I fully expect more to come his way heading into his junior year.

To wrap up our top five wide receivers in the class on 2028 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1240849' first='Jude' last='Lanier']. Jude had a strong sophomore season, finishing the year with 55 receptions for 816 yards and six touchdowns in 11 games. He has very reliable hands, showing the ability to make catches away from his body with ease, regardless of what type of coverage is around him. Lanier has also shown the speed to blow by opposing defensive backs in the deep passing game. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown this past season and came away with an interception on defense. Jude holds an offer from Nicholls State and I expect a lot of eyes to be on him this upcoming season.

Our top-ranked tight end in the class of 2028 in the state of Kentucky is [player_tooltip player_id='952775' first='Jayvion' last='Fullwood']. Fullwood is a very reliable target in the passing game, showing the ability to use his strong hands and concentration to make catches in traffic with ease. He has also shown the speed to pose as a vertical threat down the field. Fullwood finished his sophomore year with 40 catches for 529 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. He has also proven to be a very effective blocker in the run game, showing the ability to drive his man out of the picture with ease to create a running lane for the ball carrier. Speaking of the running game, Jayvion also scored two rushing touchdowns as a sophomore. Fullwood is a player who college coaches should have on their radar heading into his junior season.
