The Scott Skyhawks likely feel they underachieved in 2023 with high hopes of their first state championship in school history, but they'll return a large chunk of their production in 2024 with their eyes set on those goals once again. The biggest piece they'll have to replace is record-setting multi-year starting quarterback Matt Frye who is now playing collegiately and is the biggest question mark they have heading into this season. Scott feels good about Chapmanville transfer [player_tooltip player_id='1324952' first='Nate' last='Easterling'] taking over those reins with an extra week of preparation as the Skyhawks begin the season with an open week. He'll have some top-end talent to spread the ball to as the Skyhawks return their top three receivers who are each dynamic in their own ways and totaled a combined 2,700 yards and 31 touchdowns through the air respectively. Scott's offense will be explosive once again regardless and will give them a chance to win each week including in the playoffs in a revamped Class AA.

Scott returns nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards in 2025 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='909079' first='Carson' last='Brinegar'] who was dynamic in any way he touched the ball as a junior and totaled 1,200 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns at his main position. The track star brings his high level of athleticism to the football field and is an explosive athlete who is a threat to score anytime the ball is in his hands. Brinegar can get to the corner easily and there aren't many athletes in the state who can catch him once he gets a step on them. He's a big-time playmaker who is very good at taking short/screen passes, sweeps, and handoffs into chunk plays and touchdowns.

In our eyes, 2025 Scott LB [player_tooltip player_id='908993' first='David' last='Fennessy'] is one of the more underrated linebackers in the state, and he deserves much more college attention heading into his senior season. He's done a great job growing into his body and maximizing his physical ceiling who is now in the 5'11 210 range and up nearly 30 pounds since our last measurements we had for him. Fennessy is a physically impressive athlete who has worked hard in the weight room this off-season and now has the size needed to play linebacker in college on scholarship. The former safety maintained his athleticism since transitioning to linebacker and is a rangy player on the field who can cover ground and drop into coverage. Fennessy led the Skyhawks in tackles as a junior with 126 total including 14 TFLs and 4 sacks with 2 interceptions.

Scott isn't short of offensive playmakers and 2025 WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='907234' first='Brayden' last='Clark'] is their deep play threat who performed that role at a very high level last season. The 6'2 wideout averaged over 26 yards per catch as a junior with 10 touchdowns and just under 1,000 receiving yards. His combination of length and speed makes him a matchup problem for opposing corners and gives them a difficult choice of deciding to press him or play off coverage. Clark is very good at running under go balls and catches them in perfect stride consistently. He's a very good safety blanket for quarterbacks who can just chuck it up to him, especially in single coverage, and let him go make a play.

Scott will have a great linebacker duo in Fennessy and fellow 2025 LB [player_tooltip player_id='908619' first='Ty' last='Mitchell'] who is the bigger of the two and a different style of player. He's another well-built and physically impressive athlete who wasn't far behind Fennessy statistically with 109 tackles and 15 TFLs as a junior. His size and build translate to a physical style of play and your classic middle linebacker type of player. Mitchell plays well between the tackles and at the line of scrimmage with the athleticism to shoot gaps and make plays in the backfield. He's good at getting downhill at the snap but has the athleticism to play in coverage at times too and has the ranginess to play in space.

While Brinegar and Clark demanded a lot of attention last season, the third 2025 Scott receiver of the dynamic trio that you need to know this season is [player_tooltip player_id='630208' first='Isaiah' last='Bush']. We've gotten to see Bush in person at camps in the past which paired with his junior film should earn him some college looks this season. Bush is a versatile athlete who also plays DB at a high level and might be the more well-rounded pure receiver of the bunch. He's developed well as a route runner and has the speed and athleticism to make plays once he gets the ball. Bush has the speed to create separation during and after his route and can be utilized in all three levels of the passing tree.

We didn't get to see much junior film of 2025 Scott DL [player_tooltip player_id='908995' first='Dalton' last='Milam'] last season, but he's ready for his breakout senior in 2024. Milam moved from linebacker down to defensive line last year and we'll get a bigger sample size of that position from him this season which is a spot where he has a lot of potential and upside. He was able to total 25 tackles, 7 TFLs, and 5 sacks last season at his new spot and should improve those numbers this season. Milam has the size and athleticism to be dynamic on the defensive line as he further grows into the position physically and developmentally.

2025 Scott OL [player_tooltip player_id='978804' first='Zach' last='McNeely'] is another underrated and under-the-radar player for the Skyhawks who has been a great asset to their success the past two years. He's a versatile big man who can line up at every position along the offensive line and can also give you good interior defensive line snaps as well. We got to see him live at the PRZ WV Combine earlier this year and liked the way he carries himself and his competitive nature. He'll be a must-watch for small colleges this season and a steal for a D3 program.

Here's what we recently said about McNeely in our 2025 rankings New Additions article:

"Speaking of talented but underrated offensive linemen in this ranking range, 2025 Scott OL [player_tooltip player_id='978804' first='Zach' last='McNeely'] is another one to know in the Top 200. McNeely is a Swiss Army Knife for the Skyhawks who can play any offensive line position at the high school level and translates best to guard or potentially center at the next level. At 5'10 275, size is the one trait that keeps him lower in the rankings, but he'll bring a ton of value to a small college program in the future. McNeely is a great competitor which we saw firsthand at the combine and when watching his junior tape. He's a bully on the field who plays with an edge and a nasty streak and likely does so from being overlooked due to his size. McNeely has violent hands and is an overall strong athlete who is very physical at the point of attack. He does a great job finishing blocks and plays until the echo of the whistle with quality footwork as well."

Another under-the-radar big man prospect for Scott that small colleges need to know this season is 2025 OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id='1126414' first='William' last='Toler']. Toler was labeled as a "devastating pulling guard" by his coach and from watching his junior highlight tape you can see why he fits that description. He has quick feet for his size and has good short-area quickness that encapsulates the guard position well in their offense. Tolser has obvious nastiness in his game and finishes blocks well and with an edge. Toler is a highly physical blocker who clearly enjoys overpowering opposing defenders and being a bully on the field. He can get the second level of the defense and get his hat on a linebacker after pulling quickly.

Scott DL [player_tooltip player_id='1237591' first='Mason' last='Brown'] recently debuted in the 2026 rankings during the summer update and was very productive for the Skyhawks as a sophomore. We're anxious to see how he's progressed physically as an undersized defensive lineman or if he's athletic enough to play linebacker in the future. Either way, his production and film warranted a Top 150 ranking for his class with the clear ability to play at the next level in some capacity.

Brown totaled 55 tackles, 11 TFLs, and 2 sacks as a sophomore last season and may be flying under the radar compared to some of his other highly touted teammates. He has the potential to eventually be considered an OLB prospect depending on how athletic he is at his size but debuts in the Top 150 as a defensive lineman for now. Brown plays much bigger than his listed size and holds up well against bigger offensive linemen. Brown is a tough physical player who plays with a high motor and pursues the ball well. He's a tough matchup for high school offensive linemen because of his size and quickness and beats his man inside consistently."
