2025 Prospects New to the Top 175 (Pt. 2)

The 2025 rankings have grown by 50 since our Spring Update as 200 of the best prospects in West Virginia are now represented on our site. Here are the new prospects who made their debut in the 2025 summer rankings update inside of the Top 175.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">NEW TO THE TOP 175</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='1227646' first='Elijah' last='Pratt'] out of Cabell Midland is one of the more underrated defensive back prospects in the state of West Virginia. While he may have some physical limitations, Pratt has one of the highest football IQs in the state which is apparent when watching his junior highlight tape. Pratt does a nice job of overcoming some size deficiencies by having a great understanding of the game and his assignments while putting himself in a good position to make a play. A free safety prospect with the physicality to play strong, Pratt is equally as capable of playing in the box to stop the run as he is dropping into zones in pass coverage. He's a stout athlete for his size with a wrestling and Olympic wrestling background that gives him a big boost as an undersized prospect.   Pratt's play on the field would warrant a much higher ranking but size is an ever-so-important trait for colleges which hurts his ceiling a bit as a prospect.      Once labeled an ATH on our site, Chapmanville's [player_tooltip player_id='1180488' first='Robert' last='Cook'] is now firmly considered a QB in our rankings after having the chance to see him in person at our combine event back in May. Cook's film and stats from a season ago don't tell the full story of his capabilities as a passer which he has proven at multiple camps this off-season. He's a physically impressive athlete in person with quality athleticism that originally led us to believe he was more of an ATH prospect than QB with his running ability. While it's still possible he may switch positions at the next level, Cook proved he has the arm talent to play quarterback in college too.   While he's on that D2/D3 border for which level he ends up at eventually, Cook can play himself into some scholarship opportunities with a big senior season and become a high stock riser in our final rankings.      2025 Huntington LB [player_tooltip player_id='1024773' first='Landon' last='Miller'] is another very underrated player in the state of West Virginia who is deserving of some more love heading into his senior year. Miller totaled 98 tackles and 4 TFLs as a junior on one of the state's best teams and will return as one of the Highlanders' defensive leaders for his senior year. Size is the one trait that hurts his stock a bit, but his play on the field warranted a Top 25 linebacker ranking in the 2025 class. Miller is a good athlete and an outside linebacker prospect with the versatility to rush the passer or drop into coverage. He also plays above his size and is stout when defending the run between the tackles at the line of scrimmage. Miller does a nice job tackling through ball carriers and will fight off blockers to make a play on the ball with high effort. He has the speed and athleticism to play in space with quality pursuit speed to the ball to make plays in the open field.   With another strong season as a senior, Miller could be a stock riser in our final rankings update and force us to overlook his lack of prototypical size for the position.      A Special Honorable Mention All-MSAC performer a season ago, South Charleston RB [player_tooltip player_id='487110' first='Jaydan' last='Green'] is an under-the-radar prospect to know heading into his senior year. A massive running back in the 6'0 240 range, Green is a quality athlete for his size and utilizes his stature to his advantage on the football field. He plays the position how you'd expect an athlete his size to play it and is a physically imposing runner who you don't want to meet in the gaps between the tackles. Green is someone who's going to fall forward 9/10 times and a great short-yardage back that'll get you a consistent 3-4 yards per carry when you need it. He also moves well for his size and can shake loose at times to pick up bigger chunk yards. Green has the potential to play on the defensive side of the ball in college too and could one day grow into a defensive lineman with a potentially high ceiling for the position.   If South Charleston can take a step forward as a whole, prospects like Green will have the opportunity to climb the rankings in the final update.      Another Bridgeport Indian that we recently evaluated in our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2024/06/2024-team-preview-bridgeport-indians/">Bridgeport Team Preview</a> is running back [player_tooltip player_id='1096608' first='Tim' last='Jeffress'] who debuts as a Top 20 RB in the 2025 class. Jeffress is poised for a breakout senior season for the Indians after finishing the 2023 season strong down the stretch. He'll likely be one of the wing-backs in their single;e-wing system and a bigger option as one of their many ball carrier in their offense. Jeffress has a nice combination of size and speed and should thrive as a consistent contributor to their offense with a bigger role as a senior. You got a great idea of what he's capable of in the 73-70 thriller against Princeton in the Class AAA playoff semifinals rushing for over 250 yards and 4 touchdowns.   Jeffress is another potential stock riser in the final rankings update once we see a full season of film and a step forward in his development.      We're expecting a much bigger season for 2025 Spring Valley WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='907612' first='Gabe' last='Dixon'] in 2024 for his senior year. You caught glimpses of him last season in a crowded receiver group for the Timberwolves, but Dixon is capable of more as added opportunities should become available this season. Dixon has the athleticism to have a breakout year with a track background to build on heading into an important final year for him. He's had a good start to it with a strong showing in some 7 on 7s as Spring Valley is poised to throw the ball more than usual this season with the pieces to execute a more spread offense.   Dixon has the traits to become a dynamic slot receiver this season and at the next level with more touches which could greatly increase his ranking once we have more film available to evaluate his ability better.      2025 George Washington LB [player_tooltip player_id='1126821' first='Tyrell' last='Ellis'] is an interesting prospect who played a hybrid OLB/DE role for the Patriots last season. Although undersized at 5'9 220, Ellis is a physical player who plays much above his size and makes up for it with his style of play. A bulldog is the best way to describe Ellis on the football field who plays with a lot of effort and is always in attack mode. He's a tough block for offensive linemen due to his stature and short area quickness while often outleveraging taller tackles when at defensive end. Ellis also has middle linebacker experience but a standup edge rusher is likely where he translates best to the next level.   Size will likely keep him at the D3 level, but Ellis is a noteworthy player who now ranks inside of the Top 25 linebackers in the 2025 class.      A standout three-sport athlete for the Shady Spring Tigers, 2025 WR [player_tooltip player_id='909083' first='Jalon' last='Bailey'] is a dynamic player in any sport that he plays and now ranks inside of the Top 175 for football. While he's undersized which hurts his evaluation a bit, Bailey is what you're looking for in a slot receiver in all other areas. He has the speed and quickness to play at the next level and is a natural playmaker with the ball in his hands. Bailey has a quick release with the speed to create consistent separation from the slot and a tough matchup for linebackers. He's a reliable target in the middle of the field and a good security blanket for quarterbacks on slants and flats. Bailey also absorbs contact well for a smaller receiver and can secure catches in traffic. His burst after the catch leads you to believe he can create more YAC plays and can be dangerous in the open field.   Bailey is a stock riser candidate for the final rankings update after the season with a big senior season that we're eager to watch.      [player_tooltip player_id='1125438' first='Fisher' last='Fry'] and the Wayne Pioneers quietly had a very good 2023 season which saw them give eventual Class AA state champion Fairmont Senior a scare in the playoffs. Fry is QB1 for the Pioneers but we like him as an ATH prospect who may better translate to college at receiver or defensive back. Fry threw for 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior while also being a threat with his legs with just under 400 yards and 3 more scores. That was good enough for a WVSWA Class AA Honorable Mention All-State accolade with the potential to earn even more notoriety in the new Class AAA his senior year. On the field, Fry executes their run-heavy offense well while keeping defenses honest with the threat to throw. He's a raw passer but an overall quality athlete who does a nice job extending plays and throwing on the run. Fry will hit you with some unconventional plays that may not be textbook but get the job done and keep defenses from stacking the box too much. He made some high-level throws on his junior tape in addition to his threat to run on scrambles and designed QB runs.   Fry is a fun prospect to watch who just goes out there and makes plays and a very good small college prospect to know this season.
