One thing we learned is that there are many quality football players in Virginia who range from DIII to top Power 4 projections. However, some players did fall through the cracks when we did our rankings. This article covers seven prospects from the class of 2025 that we missed. Expect these players to receive ranks when we do a future update of the rankings.
I have mentioned Ashton once before, but when we went through our initial rankings of the class of 2025, he did not have any Hudl film available. But that has now changed. What I saw at the Appalachia Prep Combine shows in his tape. Ashton has very good athleticism displaying very good foot quickness, change of direction, lateral agility, and hip fluidity, with good foot speed and explosiveness. Can play in Press/Jam coverage and Off coverage. Very good man coverage, displaying very good hand quickness to jam WRs at the line and displays the strength to control them in his press to disrupt the route. His hip fluidity and change of direction along with his good route processing allow him to play in tight coverage, and he displays good speed to match the WR in deep routes. Good ball skills to disrupt the pass with a deflection and he has good hands to make an interception. He has the functional strength to fight through WR blocks to come up and provide good run support and can be trusted to make an open-field tackle. Expect Ashton to make a high jump into our updated 2025 rankings, especially if he has a strong senior season this fall.

Gavin is a Slot WR who displays solid change of direction (COD), lateral agility, and foot quickness. He works best in short routes where he can utilize his COD and lateral agility to create separation in Slants, Drags, and other quick-breaking routes. He displays solid hands and can highpoint the ball in traffic to secure the catch. He also can utilize his COD after the catch to force missed tackles and gain positive yards after the catch. I was able to see him at the Appalachia Prep Combine and his work off the field does translate into his film.
Highlights
Gavin is a receiving Tight End with good height and solid size. We missed him in our rankings because his 2023 season was cut short, but he has very good tape from 2022. His 2022 film displays very good athleticism with very good foot speed, acceleration, change of direction (COD), and lateral agility. He displays good release into his route, can get past DBs with his COD and lateral agility, and then quickly accelerate into his Stem. He has good ability to manipulate the route to create separation and displays the speed to run past DBs. Very good adjust and body control to secure the catch. We will be sure to be keeping any eye on Gavin’s 2024 season at Prep Redzone.
Highlights
Montrell has good athleticism displaying very good foot speed, good change of direction (COD), balance, and hip fluidity, with solid explosiveness and foot quickness. He can play in Off and Press coverage. Shows good processing of the game with patience in his reads, with quick reaction time to the throw to make a break on the ball with his good COD. Shows very good ball skills to deflect the pass and strip the ball from the hands of the WR. He displays very good run support, showing good use of hands and strength to get off the blocks with good open-field tackling. Expect him to be ranked in our updated rankings in the future.
Highlights
Landon is a right-handed Dual-threat QB for Rye Cove’s offense. He displays solid athleticism with good foot speed, acceleration, and balance, with solid change of direction and lateral agility. As a thrower, he displays good courage to stand in the pocket and complete the throw under pressure and has no issue taking a hit. He can also roll out and make throws while on the run in both directions. As a runner, he is elusive and will break tackles from defenders who fail to wrap up. He displays good vision as a runner, and his solid contact balance allows him to keep his feet through contact. There is a role for him in an option offense at the next level, but his athleticism would allow him to transition to a RB or WR position on offense as well.
Highlights
Eli is a left-handed pocket passer. He has solid height and size for a QB. He has functional athleticism to move through the pocket and create positive yards when he scrambles. He displays the pose and courage you are looking for in a QB on the field. He is calm in the pocket, allowing routes to develop, and will make a clean throw under pressure and showing his physical toughness to take the hit from the pass rusher. He can make accurate throws on all three levels and lead his WRs in their route. He can add air under the ball or throw a quick, tight spiral between defenders. He has experience playing in big moments as he led Salem to become the state champion runner-up.
Highlights
I was first introduced to Caleb at the Central Virginia Combine and I recently featured him from that event. There is no Hudl film available on Caleb, but he is one that will be making an impact this fall. Anyone who has been around him will not be surprised if he puts up big numbers for Louisa County.
