2027 Rankings – RB Spotlight (June ’24)

We've seen a ton of football this offseason from the 7v7 circuit to camps to most recently with team camps. We kick off our month of ranking updates this week with a look at the 2027 class as they head into their sophomore seasons this fall. Earlier this year, we unveiled the first batch of 2027 rankings with a top 25. This time around, we have a top 50. In this post, we're putting the spotlight on the running back position. This breakdown features every running back listed in the top 50, with the exception of [player_tooltip player_id='649663' first='Octavian' last='Roberson'] because he was <strong><a href="https://prepredzone.com/2024/06/2027-rankings-top-ten-spotlight/">covered earlier this week</a></strong>. There is a lot of potential there with Brown but he has had to be patient and wait for his opportunity to perform on Friday nights. We've seen Brown in camp settings and he definitely looks the part physically and tested incredibly well. If he has continued to develop, it wouldn't be surprising if he's one of the breakout stars in 6A-1 football. And just like Brown, Heilmann has been a guy that has impressed us at our camps in the past. Heilmann got on the field last season as a freshman but it was also limited because he was behind some seniors. Now, Heilmann is definitely a name to keep an eye on as he moves into his sophomore season because he did produce when his number was called last fall. Keys was a second or third option at running back but we expect him to move up the depth chart as we head into the 2024 season so don't be surprised if he becomes a breakout player for the Millwood offense. We got glimpses of what he can do with the ball in his hands last season and that production could see a major spike this fall. Keys has a lot of the tools to be that impact player for the Falcons. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["1084102"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6669c4f87b24b"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">There's probably not another running back in the state's 2027 class that had more production on the field than [player_tooltip player_id='1084102' first='Justin' last='Palacios'] out in Hooker. Way out in the Oklahoma panhandle, Palacios was putting up strong numbers as a freshman for a Hooker team that would make it all the way to the state championship game. They would fall to district foe Fariview but you can make the argument that the Bulldog freshman was the best player on the team that day. He was incredibly productive, as he had been all season. He should have a big 2024 campaign. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_player":["602991"],"_player_evaluations_0_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations":1,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"preview","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6669c4f87b2ae"} --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">Lincoln Christian's [player_tooltip player_id='602991' first='Braeden' last='Baker'] is yet another example of a running back that could enjoy that breakout season this fall. He performed really well at our camp back in January. He followed that up by looking the part when the pads came on in May at one of the team camps. And Lincoln Christian loses their top two rushers from last season. Baker is in a spot to get more touches this season and if he takes advantage of them, he could be one of the top running backs from a production standpoint in Class 3A. All the signs point to that right now. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
