After already covering the camp MVPs, I wanted to break down the top performers by position. With the quarterbacks already being covered, here are my top running backs from Saturday’s camp.
Jaxen Smith Jaxen Smith 5’7″ | 150 lbs | RB Bowling Green | 2026 State KY put on a show on Saturday, bringing him RB MVP honors. Smith was a true mismatch in 1v1 drills against linebackers, using his quickness to create separation with ease. He also showed the ability to use his speed to blow by opposing linebackers on deep routes. Smith doesn’t currently hold any offers but he is definitely a player who college coaches should keep a close eye on.
Highlights
Chayce Burton Chayce Burton 5’10” | 185 lbs | RB Male | 2026 State KY is a running back who has been high on my radar for a while now and continued to impress on Saturday, being named one of the top three running backs at the camp. Burton was very impressive in 1v1 drills, showing the ability to use his speed to create separation. He also showed the ability to bring in catches through contact on short passes. Burton also ran one of the fastest 40 times amongst the running backs at 4.53 seconds. Chayce currently holds offers from Louisville, Kent State, and Toledo, and I expect more to come his way as he is a true Power 4 caliber running back prospect.
Jarren Johnson Jarren Johnson 5’7″ | 175 lbs | ATH Union County | 2025 State KY was the third running back that made the top three at the position on Saturday. Johnson was able to set himself apart in the 1v1 drills against linebackers. He showed the ability to use his speed to blow by opposing defenders on deep routes. Johnson also showed the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. Jarren currently holds an offer from Kentucky Wesleyan and I expect more to come his way as he definitely has the talent to play at the next level.
Dameyn Anness Dameyn Anness 5’11” | 180 lbs | ATH Ludlow | 2026 State KY is a player that has been on my radar for a while now and continued to stand out on Saturday. Anness was very impressive during the 1v1 drills. He showed the ability to use his speed and smooth breaks in his routes to creat separation against the linebackers he matched up with. Anness also showed impressive contested catch ability, showing the hands and concentration to make tough catches through contact. Dameyn doesn’t currently hold any offers but he is definitely a player for college coaches to keep an eye on heading into his junior year.
My final RB standout from Saturday’s camp is David Anderson David Anderson 6’0″ | 190 lbs | RB Dixie Heights | 2025 State KY . Anderson had a strong performance, starting with the testing where he ran a 4.56 second 40. He continued to showcase his speed in the 1v1 drills, showing the ability to blow by opposing linebackers to create separation. Anderson also showed impressive route running ability and reliable hands, showing the ability to look the ball in over the shoulder and make catches in stride. David doesn’t currently hold any offers but he should be a player to keep an eye on heading into his senior year.
