On that same team stood one of the biggest athletes in the tournament. Smith has elite size for his age, and very fluid movement to go with it. Smith prowled the middle of the field very well and was able to come down with a couple interceptions on Saturday. His ability to move while still staying square with the line of scrimmage is second-to-none and had no problem helping out with coverage on tight ends and running backs swinging out to the side. Burnett has a zip on his passes that few quarterbacks posses, regardless of age. He does a good job at reading coverages and has no problem with taking what the defense gives him. Alex Joes
Alex Joes
Alex Joes was one of the hidden gems of the 14U division. Although not the biggest or the fastest, Joes had a knack for getting the ball in his hands all weekend. In pool play, Joes was the safety net for Southwest 7 on offense. He caught most of the passes while crossing the QB’s face and used his agility to sneak around defenders. He shined the brightest on defense though, catching two game-sealing picks in pool play and helped keep the lid on opposing offenses. Joes was a phenomenal talent that with physical growth, will become a star in the area.
Price Lusk
Price Lusk
Lusk was another receiver with the immense size and skill to play at an elite level all weekend long. Lusk has the size on all of his competition, but pulls himself even further away with his great vertical and body control to make highlight catches consistently. What is most underrated about Lusk however is his break out of his routes. He is very patient with his route running, but as soon as he hits his spot, he will explode and create all of the separation he needs to find pay dirt.
