A lot of them are the kid next door who doesn’t get the shine associated with some of the recruiting hotbeds. That doesn’t mean these small schools don’t contain a ton of good ball players just looking for the next opportunity! In this series, I will be highlighting some small town dudes with big dreams of playing at the next level!

Walsh is one of the most elite players in Millington’s conference, and watching his Hudl shows exactly why. He is an incredibly explosive back who hits the hole quickly and with authority. He forces defenders to take bad angles and gets by them quickly. He has great contact balance and keeps his legs churning even when he gets wrapped up. He is a yards after contact machine, and I really love his running style. He has a plethora of moves, including a side step that gets him that little bit of breathing room to break free. I will be really excited this fall for what he can accomplish in his senior season.
While Mason is starting to get some college attention, I still think he gets left out of the conversation way too much. He is a really strong and physical defensive lineman with a mean streak. He keeps himself low off the ball, and does a great job of ripping through his blocks to get into the backfield. He fires off quickly, and has a wide and strong base to keep himself anchored, so he doesn’t get removed from his gap. He is comfortable playing inside and outside, and I think firing off from the DE spot suits him nicely. It’s shaping up to be a really fun and productive season for the senior out of Lawton.
Highlights
Jackson is a dual threat QB who showed a ton of growth over the last couple of seasons. He is a smart player from the pocket, and is able to make pretty much every throw. On short and intermediate passes, he has no issue putting a ton of zip on it and putting it on the receiver in stride. He has more than enough arm strength to fire it down field and drop it in a bucket for his target. When he gets outside of the pocket, he is a hard and efficient runner. Overall I think he is in for another great season in 2024.
Highlights
Strine is a downhill runner who can get up field in a hurry. He has a nice stiff arm and then really good acceleration to get out to open grass. I really like that he doesn’t dance, he just hits the hole and gets what he can get. He runs hard, keeps his legs moving and falls forward for extra yardage. He’s pretty much always good for a spark for the Reading offense, and does a ton of work between the tackles when they have to grind out the last few minutes of the clock and pick up first downs. I hope to catch Lukas in action myself at some point to see what he can do for 4 quarters!
Corlew is actually one of my favorite finds over the last couple of years. He is a lanky kid with a ton of athletic upside. He can go up for 50/50 balls with anyone and be competitive, and I love how hard he plays on both sides of the ball. A true 2 way kid that always does what he’s asked, and does it to a high level. Multiple times I have watched him run or catch a touchdown, and then plays later make a game changing play defensively. I truly think he is a D2 kid at worst and I would be surprised if offers don’t roll in after he has a productive 2024 season.
