Week 1 Scouting Report: Muskegon

From top end P4 talent to big-time role players doing their job, this is a well rounded team with a super high feelings. I came in wondering how he would do against the run-heavy offense from Grandville, and he did exactly what I hoped he would. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He was high effort all night. Non-stop motor and was going 100% on each rep. He did a great job of using his length to keep a shoulder free, and jump on every opportunity to make plays. He disrupted in the backfield and made the QB earn everything on passing downs as well, which created chaos and some turnovers. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Recarder was as disruptive as you would hope a Michigan commit would be, and showed vast improvement against the run compared to the last time we saw him in person. Whether it's getting tough yards on the ground or getting out in space and turning on the jets for explosive plays, Jefferson does a great job of being a threat on every play, and being someone that must be accounted for. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Maybe the best use of his speed and athleticism came in the 3rd quarter when Muskegon called an end around for JaMier, and he was able to beat everyone to turn the corner, and them hit the jets in the open field for the 41 yard touchdown. Super impressive play against a defense that had been really stout all night long. Right play call, and perfect execution by Jefferson doing his job and using his speed to his advantage. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He currently holds a number of D2 offers, and I absolutely cosign their assessment of Jefferson's skill. Big frame but can move, explodes out of his stance, and had a number of dominant reps that ended with defenders on their back. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He looked his best in the run game, but he did a solid job pass blocking. Definitely still needs development in his technique and sets, but he was balanced and agile enough to keep defenders in front of him, and wash them down when the opportunity presented itself. First of all, he is bigger than I had thought, and looked lean and strong. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Muskegon utilized his skillset by getting him involved on short stuff and getting him in space, which he took advantage of. This kid is lightning in a bottle. He was tough as nails, gritting out tough runs up the middle, and taking some tough shots. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When he got loose, the athleticism really showed. He demonstrated elite acceleration and showed he could make guys miss consistently. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As a thrower, he was better than I had anticipated. Mechanics were a bit inconsistent, but he was still able to be pretty accurate and make the right reads and get the ball out. He's still young, so there is still time for him to continue developing as a passer, but right now for what Muskegon needs him to be, he is doing the job just fine!
