About Mason
Expert Analysis
Alex Pallone | Prep Redzone Scout
Mason has got to be the most unsung defensive lineman in Michigan. Against other Division 7 teams, Mason is absolutely unstoppable. I mean, good luck stopping 6’3″ 275.
Pretty similar to Jordin, Mason excels with his quick getoff and power. In college, I expect Mason to be a well-rounded interior defensive lineman, especially excelling in run stopping. Northwestern = Great Fit!

Mason is a very unique prospect. You don’t see many elite prospects from small schools, but Mason is just that. Better yet, Mason has an opportunity to earn some early playing time at Northwestern. Here’s a profile of his current skillset and how he projects in college.
- Power first rusher
- Projects as a defensive tackle
- Great anchor on runs, but unproven against the best talent
- Can easily win with agility
- Explosive out of stance
- Needs to improve anchor against elite offensive linemen

. From Lawton, Mayne has ideal power, size, and length for a defensive lineman. He most often lines up as a 0-3 tech, making him a prototypical DT. There, Mason is able to fire off the ball and bench-press the opposing offensive lineman. I have rarely seen someone who can bull rush as dominantly as Mason. Looking at his Twitter, Mason is able to squat 525+ while being one of the best Throwers in the state (shotput). Mason is coming off an incredible calendar year, and I hope he develops well at Northwestern.

Obviously I have talked about Mason before, and he is actually getting a good number of D1 looks, but for some reason I don’t hear many people mention him when we talk about the elite defensive linemen in our state. I think being at a small school, Mason has been a bit overlooked, but let me tell you about him for anyone who hasn’t seen him yet. He is a strong and powerful player who has a nice rip move to get into the backfield, along with a variety of other moves he tosses in regularly. I love him lining up on the edge and pass rushing as I think his quick first step, low center of gravity and powerful legs make him one of the best pass rushers you’ll find on the market. This senior could have some absolutely historic numbers this fall and I look forward to following him and his Lawton team.

While Mason is starting to get some college attention, I still think he gets left out of the conversation way too much. He is a really strong and physical defensive lineman with a mean streak. He keeps himself low off the ball, and does a great job of ripping through his blocks to get into the backfield. He fires off quickly, and has a wide and strong base to keep himself anchored, so he doesn’t get removed from his gap. He is comfortable playing inside and outside, and I think firing off from the DE spot suits him nicely. It’s shaping up to be a really fun and productive season for the senior out of Lawton.
