Here’s a look at some playmakers I recently wanted on film:
Axel Ramazani
Axel Ramazani
Ramazani’s recruitment took a nice step forward on Thursday when North Dakota State offered a scholarship. The first thing that sticks out when watching his junior highlights, is his get-off on the snap. Offensive linemen look like they’re on ice skates trying to recover from his burst into and around them. Ramazani keeps his head up while working his way off blocks, getting into position to make make plays. In one clip, he’s shown chasing down a ball carrier from behind, illustrating the speed that could make him a fit at outside linebacker in a 3-4.
Breitbach shows a really good feel for playing running back during his junior highlights. He mixes patience, a quick burst and good vision in finding success carrying the ball. He understands how to set up his blocks, cuts quickly and can power through would-be tacklers. Breitbach shows a knack for catching the ball out of the backfield, which makes slot receiver a potential position on the next level. His athleticism and quick-twitch traits could work on defense and in the return game.
Highlights
Kadan Borcherding-Johnson
Kadan Borcherding-Johnson
Borcherding-Johnson’s older brother, Maddux, is a freshman defensive lineman for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kadan brings a different skill set and body type to the field than his older sibling but mimics him in play-making ability. Kadan is long-limbed with impressive athleticism that could play at multiple positions, depending on the college. His junior highlights show us an active defender with excellent instincts and the ability to diagnose plays. When watching, you can envision him lining up at safety on the next level. He could also grow into a hybrid linebacker.
Amari Washington
Amari Washington
I watched Washington help the Bulldog basketball team advance to the state tournament earlier this week. He’s an athletic big man on the hardwood and the gridiron. During his junior football highlights, he reveals to us that he’s a disruptive force on the defensive line. He combines brute strength and power with quickness and relentless pursuit. He appears versatile enough to play inside or out, in a 4-3 or a 3-4. I wouldn’t rule out offense at the next level, either. He could develop into a well-rounded tight end.
Sutherland is a local kid here in Iowa City, so I’ve watched him develop into a prospect plenty of colleges could use. Like Washington, he plays basketball, which highlights his athleticism and agility for a big guy. In football, Sutherland could work really well as a tight end on the next level, as you can witness watching his junior highlights. He’s offers size, speed, blocking ability and sharp route running. I think he might work as an edge rusher, too. He boasts the frame and quickness to do damage on defense.
Highlights
Kies was born to play linebacker. His junior highlights show us just that. Kies operates with excellent tempo and takes it through the whistle. He flows well to the ball, keeping his eyes on the play and diagnosing what’s coming his way. His ability to drop into coverage and stick with receivers and tight ends should make him even more attractive for college coaches. He finds the right gap more often than not and sheds blocks regularly. Kies also could be a dynamic special teams performer.

Robbins is an exciting all-around athlete who could fit at multiple positions at the next level. He shines as a running back during his junior highlights. He stands out for his patience in letting his blockers set him up and then he accelerates through the opening with an extra gear when he hits daylight. He’s shifty and can break tackles. He’s also a threat as a receiver out of the backfield and could work in the slot at the next level. I wouldn’t rule out a transition to defense with his athleticism if a college chose to try him there.
