Continue ReadingSmith lined up at Safety for Westland. One of the first things that popped for me with Emoni’s fluidity and spacial awareness. He smoothy and easily transitions from back pedal, to turn and run, and turning to find his space and the ball. He has loose hips that play on a swivel. His length gives him added room to play the football when it’s in the air. Emoni already has a handful of G5 offers from the MAC, this summer camp season will be an opportunity for him to break onto the P4 scene.
Standing 6’7 280 pounds Guthrie already has a frame of a D1 P4 offensive tackle. He bends and well and plays with a good pad level, which can be a challenge for players his height. He’s already grown into his body as a sophomore. You see good feet in a smooth kick step and his ability to get to the second level and deliver blows. Once he engages blockers, he has the leg drive that causes defenders to go backwards. Guthrie just needs to continue to get stronger as far as upper body goes to where he can finish violently. He already has P4 offers, but I expect his recruitment to go to another level summer camp season.
Highlights
Smith is a long and explosive athlete on the football field. He played Linebacker and Quarterback for the Nubians. His future belongs on the defensive side of the ball however. As a linebacker he has plus, plus athleticism. In talking with his coach, Smith will be moving to cornerback this fall. He also displays those physical traits on the basketball court in the form of breakaway and alley-oop dunks. I’m excited to see what film Smith can put together with his combination length and athleticism.
Phillips was a player I was just turned onto this offseason. He’s a versatile linebacker who fits the role of a hybrid linebacker to a tee. Phillips is a terror on off of the edge in the blitz game. He’s twitchy and downhill. He also has the hips and lateral explosiveness to adjust to change of direction by the ball carrier. He has the feet and athleticism of a DB in the pass game as he’s comfortable and fluid in space with good ball skills. Phillips is under the radar right now, but I could easily see him burst onto the D1 and P4 scene this offseason.
Highlights
When you watch Hodge’s film you see a very well rounded wide receiver especially for a sophomore. He has a sturdily built frame and the strength to play through contact. He’s explosive getting off the line of scrimmage. He’s a detailed route runner who does a good job of putting his foot in the ground and being explosive in his breaks. When Justen gets the ball in his hands, with his explosiveness and athleticism he’s always a threat to make the big play. He has a handful of MAC offers to go with an offer from Michigan State. Hodge will have a chance to add to that stack offers with a strong summer camp season.
