Continue ReadingAround 100 middle schoolers made their way to Fort Worth on Sunday and we got a good look at what the future of Texas football (and beyond) holds at the South Middle School Showcase. In this post, we’re putting the spotlight on five players who were the five quickest campers in attendance. Part of the camp was the shuttle drill or 5 by 10 by 5 and these five campers had the five fastest times recorded on Sunday. This drill does a good job of seeing just how quick players can move while changing direction.
Cooper Waldrip
Our first standout from Sunday’s drill is wide receiver Cooper Waldrip and he actually tied for the second fastest time in the drill with a time of 4.44 seconds on his second attempt. Waldrip improved his time on his second run after running a 4.63 on his first attempt. Waldrip did a good job of taking in the coaching, improving his time and earning his spot on this breakdown. Then he performed really well during the competition portion of the camp.
Hayes Hackney
This is a breakdown full of wide receivers but quarterback Hayes Hackney actually had the fastest time in the shuttle drill on Sunday. Hackney ran a time of 4.38 on his second attempt and that takes the crown for the fastest time in Fort Worth. And just like with Waldrip, that was Hackney’s second attempt at the drill. His first time was 4.68 seconds. He did an excellent job of improving his time and walking away with the quickest shuttle time.
Tano Wooten Tano Wooten 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH TX
Wide receiver Tano Wooten Tano Wooten 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH TX has impressed us before at Prep Redzone Next camps. At this time last year, Wooten tore up the Texas camp and was one of the top running backs in attendance. On Sunday, he worked primarily at wide receiver and tested incredibly well. Wooten ran a time of 4.47 seconds in the shuttle and was very consistent in this drill. His first time was 4.50 as he continued to impress us at our PRZ-Next events.
Trenton Jones Trenton Jones 5'10" | 180 lbs | WR TX
We wrote about wide receiver Trenton Jones Trenton Jones 5'10" | 180 lbs | WR TX earlier this week because he was one of the top five campers in the 40-yard dash as well. Simply put, Jones was the absolute best camper in attendance in terms of a testing beast. In the shuttle drill, Jones would run a time of 4.50 and while his second time was slower, the first run was good enough to put him in the top five of another drill. Within the first hour of the camp, Jones had turned multiple heads.
Tristan Shelton
Our final prospect within the top five was wide receiver Tristan Shelton after he ran a time of 4.44 seconds on his second attempt in the shuttle drill. Shelton ran a time of 4.53 on his first attempt and brought that time down on the second. Shelton absolutely dominated the camp on Sunday. He tested well and then was without a doubt one of the best wide receivers in attendance. He was right there in the discussion for MVP honors at wide receiver.
