Team Preview – Dawson Eagles

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em><strong>Coach Allison and the Dawson Eagles had a strong season last year, finishing 2nd in the district at 6-2, and going 7-4 overall with a first round appearance in the playoffs. The Eagles return a number of playmakers and depth in the trenches. 7 starters on offense and 6 on defense who have gained valuable experience and will be ready to lead this upcoming season.</strong></em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:separator --> <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" /> <!-- /wp:separator --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='2080085' first='Corey' last='Brown']</em></strong> headlines the offensive unit. The two-way senior star will be a pivot piece on both sides of the ball once again and his contributions at the receiver position will be needed. He is the top returning receiver, totaling 486 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns on 28 catches. Brown proved to be a versatile weapon who can excel lined up at any spot. He was incredibly impactful as a corner as well, covering most teams top target and being disruptive in the run game. Senior receiver <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1972138' first='Calvin' last='Wesley']</em></strong> will be a name to follow as well. He is a force out of the slot which smooth route running and the ability to create separation. Wesley is an exceptional return man who can flip the field in a hurry. Last season he totaled 385 receiving yards on 42 catches, and 2 return touchdowns on 9 returns. Another true athlete who can generate big plays for the Eagles offense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Senior tackles <strong><em>Carter Ceasar</em></strong> and <em><strong>Arthur Powell</strong></em> will be the leaders of the oline. Ceasar did not allow a sack last season and showed great footwork and physicality at the position. He is an agile lineman who moves defenders out of the way. Powell at 6'5, 305 uses his size to displace opponents. With one good push, the defender is out of the play, creating space for the Eagle playmakers. The active backer gets in on almost every play and has shown great closing speed on the ball. He finished his junior campaign with 100 tackles with 8 TFLs and 3 sacks. Outside backer, senior <strong><em>Kaleb Burks</em></strong> is a guy to watch as well. He has an incredible burst off of the edge and hunts down the ball with urgency. Burks sheds blocks with ease and will make stops in the open field. He tallied 54 tackles including 6 TFLs and 2 sacks. The defensive line will be a unit who may shock the area.
