Continue ReadingAfter the Prep Redzone Next Middle School Camp in Murfreesboro this past Saturday, it’s time to look back at some of the most explosive standouts that showcased their talent on the field in a big way. In addition to garnering the interest of their positional coaches as well as the scouts on site, these guys walked away from the event as MVPs for their commanding effort, raising their stock while proving themselves as top tier playmakers.
At the top of my list of standouts is Thomas Heffner Thomas Heffner 6’0″ | 170 lbs | QB Lausanne Collegiate School | 2028 TN , who took home MVP for being one of the top quarterback during the camp. Heffner proved his athleticism and speed during the early stages of camp before later impressing in positional drills. In addition to outstanding arm strength and the ability to execute deep passes, what impressed me about Heffner was his ability to read his receivers in coverage and complete challenging passes. Based on his pin-point accuracy in the air, it’s no surprise that Heffner walked away as the one of the top gunslingers.
Highlights
I am additionally impressed with Maximus Curry Maximus Curry 5’9″ | 150 lbs | WR Blackman | 2028 TN , who picked up MVP for being the most oustanding wide receiver in the house. On top of great size and speed, what stands out about Curry is his footwork and versatile edge. During positional drills, Curry made his presence known down the stretch, proving his ability to utilize bursts of speed to fly down the field and haul in the deep pass. Another aspect of Curry that impressed was his ability to overpower defensive backs, showing of his physicality and ability to elevate off the ground to make crucial catches.
Highlights
Claiming the number three spot on my list is Jordon Ward, who also collected an MVP award for being the best running back at the event. What made Ward such an impactful prospect was his size, speed and physicality, proving his ability to be a multi-faceted player that can quickly execute, handle contact and be shifty with his feet. In the later portion of camp, Ward caught my attention with his relentless toughness and ability to use space and time to his advantage. Ward was without question one of the top prospects at the event and deserved to be an MVP.

Another skilled prospect to showcase his talent was Xavier Bowman Xavier Bowman 5’9″ | 140 lbs | DB Farragut | 2028 TN , who earned MVP for being the most efficient defensive back in the building. Bowman caught my attention due to his height, speed and ability to utilize his arms in coverage. I also liked how Bowman could read the pass, using his physical edge and height advantage to overpower receivers in the backfield. With the ability to adapt and persevere in coverage, Bowman was definitely deserving of MVP honors.

Coming in at number five on my list is Connor Blevins Connor Blevins 6’2″ | 290 lbs | OL Northern Pulaski | 2028 KY , who collected MVP for being the top offensive lineman on the field. Blevins impresses me with his commanding strength and ability to overpower his opponent during one-on-one drills. With great size and footwork, Blevins proved his efficiency and movement, showcasing his ability to blast his man to the ground and stay organized at the line of scrimmage. It’s no surprise that Blevins walked away as an MVP.

Also worth mentioning is Jack Ferguson Jack Ferguson 5’6″ | 165 lbs | ATH Baylor | 2028 TN , an athlete that also walked away from camp with MVP honors. What I like about Ferguson is his ability to read his opponent and use his electric speed off the whistle to make the most of his opportunities down the stretch. Another aspect of Ferguson’s playstyle that stands out is his versatile edge, proving he can overpower his opponent in coverage and use his footwork to juke out his man during one-on-ones. Ferguson definitely deserved to win MVP accolades for his performance.

Another talented player that established himself in Murfreesboro was Jennaris Henry Jennaris Henry 6’0″ | 185 lbs | ATH Alcoa | 2028 TN , who finished the event as MVP for the linebacker group. Henry proved himself to be a dangerous weapon early on in the camp, showing off his explosiveness during warm-up drills. During the positional portion of the event, Henry made a strong impression due to his size and ability to juke out his opponent with his deceptive footwork. I also liked Henry’s ability to be shifty off the whistle, proving he deserved to be a camp MVP.

Coming in at number eight on my list of notable performers is Jaxon Wells Jaxon Wells 6’0″ | 220 lbs | DL KY , who took home the MVP award for being one of the top defensive lineman. In addition to excellent size, speed and physicality, what stood out the most about Wells was his ability to learn and adapt to his opponent, using his core strength and aggression to win matchups against some tough linemen. I also liked how Wells used his arms to stun his opponent, proving he was one of the most impactful prospects in the building and deserved to be one of the camp MVPs.

Another talented prospect was Davey Lawrence III, who also picked up an MVP award for making a strong impression with the quarterback group. Lawrence was another outstanding gunslinger that showcased his talent in Murfreesboro, making a difference in both warm-ups and positional drills. What made Lawrence so significant was his quick release and precision in the air. I also liked Lawrence’s ability to hit receivers in stride despite heavy coverage from the defensive backs. With great composure and control, Lawrence was also deserving of MVP accolades.
