It was extremely difficult picking out a top five to highlight, since 10 players performed well enough to deserve accolades.
Here is a breakdown of the top quarterbacks from the event.
O’Neal had a scheduling conflict but still took the time to make it for the second half of the showcase which was much appreciated.
He stood out immediately among the other quarterbacks during the individual drills and one-on-ones. His arm strength is top notch and he throws beautiful deep balls with ease.
O’Neal’s release is smooth and he was hitting receivers in stride that he had just met. I wish we could have seen how he tested in the speed drills, but he was the clear MVP regardless.
Villalbazo was great in the agility drills and has a lot of arm strength, particularly on the intermediate throws.
His accuracy was plus on the short and intermediate throws and he always made the right reads.
He’s a big guy and a natural leader who puts his whole body into his throws.
Highlights
Zale impressed me with the variety of arm angles he was making good throws with on Sunday.
The ball jumps out of his hands and he had one of the tightest spirals of the day. He throws a great deep ball with accuracy and fit the ball in tight windows in the flat.
Zale needs to add a little size in the weight room, but he can spin it and make big plays for Trabuco Hills in 2024.
Highlights
O’Byrne has put on some serious muscle since I saw him last summer and in the fall.
Consistency was a concern for O’Byrne on Sunday but when he was on, he made some of the best throws of the day. He showed serious athleticism in the speed tests.
He keeps the ball tight to his body and has a nice, high release. O’Byrne will be asked to do a lot in Tesoro’s offense next season and he has the tools to carry an offense.
Highlights
Ferguson is long and has a smooth release. He stays tall throughout his throwing motion and made the right reads during the individual drills.
He wasn’t the best athlete among the field of quarterbacks but he throws well off-platform. What made him standout was the arm strength he displayed on the deep balls during the one-on-one period.
Ferguson doesn’t have a lot of varsity experience, but his arm strength is above average and he has confidence.
