A young ATH prospect that I like is Sylas Nelson Sylas Nelson 6’1″ | 195 lbs | ATH Independence | 2026 State WV from Independence who had a very good sophomore season for a Class AA playoff semifinals squad. Nelson plays both quarterback and receiver on offense for the Patriots and took over as QB1 in the second half of the season. At 6’1 190, Nelson has very good size for a 2026 skill player and has options as a college prospect. He did some really good things at both positions this season but is still quite a bit raw as a quarterback right now. Nelson is more of a run-first quarterback currently who can run some option or QB power/draw. Being physically built as a young athlete lets him carry the ball often while having the size to absorb hits on his body. Nelson has some good speed which he showed at receiver and running the ball at quarterback, but he can shake off arm tackles and push forward for tough extra yards too. He was a First Team All-Coalfields Conference selection this season as a utility player and will likely be QB1 for the next two seasons for the Patriots.
The odds of Bluefield’s Josiah Campbell Josiah Campbell 5’10” | 155 lbs | DB Bluefield | 2026 State WV making a big play when he’s on the field or gets the ball in his hands are high, and he showed that as a sophomore for the Beavers. Campbell could’ve been classified as an ATH in our rankings but his potential at DB is very high. The 5’10 155 sophomore was very productive in all three phases when he got an opportunity this past season and is a playmaker regardless of which position he lines up at. The most impressive aspect of his sophomore tape was his special teams play returning and covering kicks where he made splash plays doing both. Limited DB film right now but I expect Campbell to have a large role next season in some capacity and could move positions in our rankings. He has all of the athletic tools and traits that he needs to develop into a quality college prospect in the next two years. Campbell is a natural playmaker who has the instinct to know what he’s supposed to do with or without the ball which leads to explosive plays. He is someone who could make a jump in the rankings moving forward if he continues this trajectory.
One of many Capital sophomores in our 2026 rankings is RB/LB Camdyn Harris Camdyn Harris 5’9″ | 175 lbs | RB Capital | 2026 State WV who was a two-way starter this season for the rebuilding Cougars. I liked the 5’9 175 running back’s sophomore tape where he showed some versatility at the position. The one early aspect part of his game that stood out was his ability to be a pass catcher out of the backfield. Capital liked to call a lot of screens last season and they got Harris involved in them. He can also flare out into the flats or run some wheel routes to further be involved in the passing game. Harris is a balanced runner who stays low and has fluid hips to change direction. He’s a quality between-the-tackles runner who is still developing the quickness and speed to be able to get outside the tackles and turn the corner. Harris also can make defenders miss and showed some twitch on film which will further improve with increased quickness. I think for his size he’s also a quality power runner who runs hard and can brush off arm tackles. I like the future outlook for Harris and am excited to watch him develop over the next two years.
The Princeton Tigers had as prolific of an offense as anyone did this season in WV while finishing as Class AAA state runner-ups. I thought the Tigers’ offensive line was a very underrated part of their success this season who were likely overshadowed by some skill players with eye-popping numbers. Sophomore guard Jimmy Bowling Jimmy Bowling 6’2″ | 285 lbs | OL Princeton | 2026 State WV impressed me on film and showed some great qualities as a young offensive lineman. He was dominant in run blocking at times and often won at the point of attack as a sophomore. Bowling also has quality feet for his age and showed he can get to the second level to block. I thought he played with good leverage and did a nice job finishing blocks after initial contact. Bowling is a physical young player who plays with an edge that I loved seeing for a lineman his age. I’d like to see more pass-blocking film of him which he should have plenty of the next two seasons in Princeton’s offense, but he helped pave the way for 1,700-yard rusher Marquel Lowe Marquel Lowe 5’11” | 185 lbs | RB Princeton | 2025 State WV . If Bowling keeps adding size he could make a jump in the rankings and raise his ceiling.
Highlights
Logan quarterback Adam Baisden Adam Baisden 6’2″ | 185 lbs | QB Logan | 2026 State WV could’ve been ranked off of the first clip on his sophomore highlight tape alone. He catches your attention quickly with a 40-yard dime to his receiver streaking down the sideline at the goal line while throwing on the run, over a trailing defender, and off-balanced. Baisden throws with nice touch on deep balls and has the arm strength to hit them in stride. He’s comfortable extending plays and escaping the pocket to throw on the run or scramble downfield. I wouldn’t classify him as a true dual-threat quarterback right now but Baisden has the athleticism to make plays with his legs when needed. Baisden seems to operate well under pressure without panicking into a bad play. I’d like to see more short and intermediate passes in his highlights along with velocity throws to better judge his arm talent outside of deep balls. Baisden has good size already for the position at 6’3 185 and is an early candidate for a Top 5 quarterback in the 2026 class.
Parkersburg South’s Taj Joyce Taj Joyce 6’4″ | 180 lbs | WR Parkersburg South | 2026 State WV was a productive two-way player for the Patriots this season as a sophomore at WR and DB but will debut in the rankings as a receiver. At 6’4 180, Joyce has the elite length that you would love to have at wideout but he was also playing corner at that size. I don’t believe he has the fluidity right now to be considered a corner prospect but may be able to play safety at the next level too. Joyce led the Patriots in interceptions though and could eventually switch to DB in our rankings. He has reliable hands and his size allows him to go up over smaller defenders to secure the catch. His size will also allow him to be a dominant blocker at wideout in time as he continues adding more mass and strength to his long frame. I think a big off-season in the weight room and adding weight will take his name to another level for his junior season and will give him an extra gear with his speed. While he’s still a bit raw right now, Joyce has obvious potential and upside as a prospect who could make a big jump in the next two years.
Spring Valley’s Miguel Cain Miguel Cain 5’10” | 200 lbs | RB Spring Valley | 2026 State WV is a fun running back prospect who showed a lot of versatility as a sophomore this season for the Timberwolves. The first thing I loved seeing on his highlight tape was his willingness to block. It looked like he enjoyed that aspect of the position and showed it on traditional pass sets and as a lead blocker on QB power. Cain had a handful of explosive runs as a sophomore but had a lot of tough runs between the tackles this season for medium gains. Although he’s a physical runner and blocker, Cain also has good fluidity in his hips and feet with a nice burst. I expected him to be a FB/RB hybrid player but Cain showed quality athleticism on film and I believe will develop into a traditional power back. At 5’10 200, he’s built well for a sophomore which benefitted him as a blocker and between the tackles runner. Cain also showed he can catch the ball out of the backfield and is well-rounded for a young running back.
The second Logan Wildcat in this section is one of Adam Baisden Adam Baisden 6’2″ | 185 lbs | QB Logan | 2026 State WV ‘s top pass catchers this season Caden Justice Caden Justice 5’10” | 170 lbs | WR Logan | 2026 State WV . The 5’10 170 slot receiver was productive during his sophomore campaign totaling nearly 1,000 all-purpose yards while hauling in 34 passes for 462 yards and 5 total touchdowns. Quick and speedy slot receiver with a nice burst and release off of the line. Justice is a quality playmaker after the catch who showed some twitch to be a good YAC receiver. He can also run the ball on jet sweeps or line up in the backfield as a running back. Justice is also a good returner where he totaled nearly 400 return yards this season. He has the speed to separate during his route and after the catch and can execute all three levels of the route tree. Justice debuts in the 2026 rankings as a Top 15 receiver but could see an increase with further development in the next two years.
Highlights
Kane Whipp Kane Whipp 6’0″ | 245 lbs | OL Martinsburg | 2026 State WV will be transferring to state-champion Martinsburg in 2024 after being a sophomore starting guard for Musselman. The obvious question with him will be how much he will grow in the next two years, but Whipp made tremendous progress since his freshman year and is now in the 6’0 240 range. I thought he showed quality fundamentals and technique as a young lineman and seems to be ahead of many OL his age in that department. Whipp plays with good leverage with a strong base and physical at the point of attack. He does a nice job sustaining blocks after initial contact and has the athleticism to keep his feet moving while also being able to pull effectively. Whipp held up well against larger defensive linemen allowing his technique and early strength to make up for his size. If he continues to grow his ceiling will greatly rise and is the only thing keeping him lower on the OL list at this time.
