We just wrapped up the 2023 campaign but football never sleeps as we have officially moved into the offseason, meaning it’s time for camp season and 7v7.
This process has already begun as on Saturday at Oakland High School, more than 40 prospects attended the Mid-TN Wolfpack 7v7 tryouts and several guys not only stood but put themselves on the map in my eyes as prospects to follow over the next 12 months.
Here we provide a quick rundown on some of the standout players from yesterday’s tryouts and how we see them moving forward.
(QB) Sam Evitts Sam Evitts 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Sequatchie County | 2025 TN – Sequatchie Co.
– Sporting great size and a big arm, Evitts was the top quarterback prospect in attendance and he proved that status throughout the day with several good throws. The Indians rising senior looks the part of a college quarterback and he has the mobility as well to go along with his strong right arm. Evitts has much to continue learning but the physical traits and skill set is there to develop into a Top 10 in-state QB for the #TN2025 class.

‘26 (QB) Isaiah Batten Isaiah Batten 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Ensworth | 2026 TN – Ensworth
– This was one prospect that I was interested to see in person and work with and after the day’s action, I have to say that Batten has “something” about him that I like. Standing 6 ‘2 with a physical body and a big arm, Batten has several tools about himself that says he could make it into the college game. Several times throughout the day, the Tigers rising junior pushed the ball down field with great throws along with showing decisive decision making.

(WR) John Dragoo, Jr – Blackman
– Coming into the tryouts on Saturday, Dragoo, Jr was unknown to me but after his performance, the Blaze current junior wideout has become a player to watch over the coming recruiting cycle. Standing 6 ‘0 with a physical build, Dragoo, Jr impressed with his ability to take the top off with his speed but also make some tough contested catches. Keep an eye on this Mid-TN talent going forward as an under the radar product that could break out into stardom.

(WR) Noah Spencer Noah Spencer 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH University School Of Jackson | 2025 TN – USJ
– Spencer is the ultimate competitor with good size, a physical build and outstanding hands that can be developed much further throughout the coming 7v7 season. The Bruins rising senior stood out to me as someone that could play a variety of positions on the field but for receiver, Spencer is a big bodied guy with quick feet that knows how to get open. His athleticism and feel for the game should gain college interest as he continues to develop during the coming offseason.

(TE) Wes Harper Wes Harper 6'3" | 215 lbs | TE Davidson Academy | 2025 TN – Davidson Academy
– One of the more impressive looking prospects at the MTWP tryouts, Harper is a big bodied guy with outstanding hands along with a sharp mind for the game of football. The Bears rising senior showed maturity, high football knowledge and the understanding on how to use his body to get open. Harper is a sure handed pass catcher that should be fun to watch progress on the field over the next few months.

(TE) Wils Jackson Wils Jackson 6'5" | 200 lbs | TE Franklin | 2025 TN – Franklin
– This guy is unknown to many around this state but you will be learning tons about this 6 ‘5 long and athletic pass catcher over the coming months. Jackson is a big guy with a great body to take on more weight but also has excellent hands and the ability to run after the catch. Tons of potential resides inside this Williamson County big man with continued on-field development and work inside the weight room.

(TE) Xavier Watkins Xavier Watkins 6'2" | 205 lbs | ATH Smyrna | 2025 TN – Smyrna
– Watkins is a natural athlete that has the upside to excel on either side of the ball but on Saturday, the Bulldogs junior two-way talent showed off excellent hands at tight end along with a strong vert and the ability to make tough, contested catches. His college upside may sit best at Edge Linebacker but Watkins is skilled enough to develop and star at tight end as well.

(Ath) Ethan Cleary – Centennial
– Cleary is undersized but he plays much bigger and this rising senior can run too. Working out of the slot on Saturday, Cleary did an excellent job of running his routes and getting open then bringing in some tough catches. This is a versatile offensive playmaker that can be utilized in multiple ways during the coming 7v7 season and next Fall with the Cougars.

‘26 (Ath) Kari Dixon Kari Dixon 5'9" | 145 lbs | ATH Blackman | 2026 TN – Blackman
– One of the best two-way talents in attendance, Dixon displayed excellent work on Saturday at both cornerback and receiver. The Blaze rising junior plays a technique sound brand of football along with having the athleticism and speed to make a difference on both sides of the ball. This coming offseason will be big for Dixon as he tries to establish himself as one of the best “athletes” from the #TN2026 class.

‘26 (Ath) KeAndre Gibson KeAndre Gibson 5'10" | 160 lbs | ATH Wilson Central | 2026 TN – Wilson Central
– People better start getting to know this rising junior as Gibson was the most athletic, electric playmaker that we had at tryouts on Saturday. Working on both sides of the ball, Gibson displayed excellent athleticism, speed and the ability to place himself around the ball on a consistent basis. Over on offense, Gibson was near unguardable as his shiftiness and elusive body movements made it hard for defenders to deal with.

‘26 (DB) Emarion Woods Emarion Woods 6'3" | 170 lbs | DB Oakland | 2026 TN – Oakland
– Tall and long with a wide radius, Woods had a good showing at MTWP tryouts, displaying excellent range along with the ability to put himself in position on a consistent basis to make a play on the ball. Woods is still young and learning but the physical tools and traits are there to become an excellent safety during his time at Oakland and one day compete for a spot on the collegiate gridiron.
