It’s officially been a decade of dominance for the Bixby Spartan football program. On Friday night, the Spartans squared off with Jenks for the second time in the last month. Bixby knocked off the Trojans 49-21 to win another gold ball. In week ten, they won 31-14, pulling away in the fourth quarter. The victory on Friday night gave Bixby their sixth consecutive state championship. And it’s their ninth gold ball in the last ten seasons. The Spartans became the first program to make it to ten consecutive state championship games this year. They won seven out of eight 6A-2 titles from 2014-2021 and won the last two gold balls in 6A-1.
When you play Bixby, you have to be perfect or as close to perfect as possible and the Trojans fell short of that on Friday. Their first two possessions ended with turnovers. Bixby made them pay on the second one. Sophomore quarterback Carson Kirby Carson Kirby 5'11" | 185 lbs | QB Bixby | 2026 State OK found fellow sophomore Cord Nolan Cord Nolan 6'1" | 185 lbs | TE Bixby | 2026 State OK for a 12-yard touchdown and that capped off a four play drive that went 80 yards in less than 30 seconds. That’s how quickly it can happen. Last week, Union jumped up 21-0 and Jenks climbed all the way back to stun their rival in the semifinals. On Friday night, Bixby jumped up 21-0 but there was no comeback.
Bixby made it 14-0 late in the first quarter as Kirby found senior star Kordell Gouldsby Kordell Gouldsby 5'11" | WR Bixby | 2024 State OK for a 44-yard score. That would be the first of five touchdowns for the Bixby senior. Gouldsby scored from a couple yards out to make it 21-0 early on in the second quarter. But Jenks would have life. On Bixby’s next offensive possession, a Kirby pass was tipped up in the air and Jenks standout Sam Stone Sam Stone 6'0" | DB Jenks | 2025 State OK intercepted it and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. Bixby erased any hope of another Jenks comeback on the ensuing kickoff. Gouldsby raced 96 yards to go up 28-7 and the lead was never in doubt from there.
After leading 28-7 at halftime, Bixby opened the second half with a scoring drive that took three plays and went 80 yards in 45 seconds. Cooper Parker Cooper Parker 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Bixby | 2025 State OK scored from a yard out to put the champs up 35-7. Gouldsby ran for another touchdown later in the quarter and finished off the game with his fifth touchdown early in the fourth quarter on a short touchdown reception. Jenks would add a pair of second half touchdowns. Jenks sophomore KD Jones KD Jones 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Jenks | 2026 State OK would score a rushing and receiving touchdown but one week after his miraculous play last week, Bixby was too much on Friday night for the young star.
Bixby senior running back Jett Turner Jett Turner 6'1" | LB Bixby | 2024 State OK went out with his fourth straight state title in impressive fashion. He finished the game with 235 yards on 25 carries Friday night. Turner was apart of two state title teams at Jenks as a freshman and sophomore. He won another gold ball last year as a junior at Bixby and then his fourth on Friday night. Gouldsby finished with 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns on five catches. He also had 63 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns to go along with the kick return for six. Gouldsby totaled just over 305 all purpose yards on Friday night.
Coming into this season, we knew that the front seven for Bixby was going to be nasty and they absolutely set the tone on Friday. They lived in the Jenks backfield and combined for five sacks on the night and 12 tackles for loss. Defensive linemen Brandon Hobbs Kason Hatley Kason Hatley 6'0" | DL Bixby | 2024 State OK and Justin Kirk Justin Kirk 6'0" | DL Bixby | 2024 State OK along with linebackers Cooper Parker Cooper Parker 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Bixby | 2025 State OK Cody Crull and Hank Puckett Hank Puckett 5'11" | LB Bixby | 2024 State OK could not be contained as the Spartans come at you in waves and Friday night was another great example of that.
