With each section receiving a 1st Team All WNY and a 2nd Team All WNY. Today, I am going to discuss the underclassmen who made 2nd Team All WNY (Small Schools). This is a great group of football players that I think will make an impact in 2024 and reach their potential of making 1st Team.
Tyrone Clark Tyrone Clark 5’10” | 190 lbs | RB Lackawanna | 2027 NY came in and became Lackawanna’s workhorse immediately, rushing 127 times for 1,518 yards and 18 TDs (in only 9 games). His 12 yards per carry average was the most in Section VI among players with 100 or more attempts. Clark was a major part to Lackawanna’s success in 2023 as they went undefeated in the regular season before an upset loss to South Park in the 1st Rd of the Class B Playoffs. However, in defeat Tyrone shined rushing 20 times for 165 yards and 2 TDs. Clark has a quick burst through the offensive line. He has extraordinary vision with amazing balance and when he does get tackled, he always falls forward gaining extra yards. Coming in and making an impact on Varsity as a Freshmen is rare but it is exactly what Tyrone Clark Tyrone Clark 5’10” | 190 lbs | RB Lackawanna | 2027 NY did for the Lackawanna Steelers. He was deserving of 1st Team honors in 2023. He did not get it but with 3 years of High School Football left, it is sure to come.
Although Dundon was awarded 2nd Team as a Kick Returner, he was an asset in every aspect of the game. He was the Chiefs primary return man, gaining 301 yards on 14 attempts. It was on defense where Gavin shined the most. At Strong Safety, Gavin Dundon Gavin Dundon DB Iroquois | 2025 State NY had 58 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries in 2023. Due to missing two games, it was a step back from his sophomore year where he led Iroquois defense with 98 tackles, 1 INT and 2 forced fumbles, along with 5 pass defensed. Gavin is a tough-as-nails players with great football intuition. Given a full season workload, there’s no doubt he can make 1st team All WNY next season.
Michael Jeffords
Michael Jeffords
At 260 lbs, Jeffords brings extraordinary strength and power. He reads and reacts to the run very well, making 29 tackles in his first year on Varsity. He only recorded 2 sacks in 2023 but the good thing is that he is a Sophomore. He showed a lot of potential on film that his Junior and Senior seasons look promising. With great hand placement, he is able to beat the opposing linemen and when he gets to the ball carrier, het meets him with determination and tenacity. The future looks bright for this young student-athlete.
A 3 year Varsity player, Amir Douglas Amir Douglas RB Lackawanna | 2025 State NY has really made an impact for the Lackawanna Steelers, who have lost just 1 game in the last two season. As a part time Running Back, Douglas has put together 204 carries for 1,464 yards and 20 TDs, while adding 27 receptions for 427 yards and 4 TDs in his High School career. But it was his skill set at the Linebacker position that landed him on this list, making 194 tackles in 3 seasons with 21 for loss in 2023. He’s also added 7 sacks, 2 INTs, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Amir Douglas Amir Douglas RB Lackawanna | 2025 State NY is incredibly fast and can attack the ball carrier with extreme force. He can play the pass as well as the run. His ability to shed blockers and make a play is unparalleled. Lackawanna were Section VI champions in 2022 and after getting upset in the playoffs last year, they will look to get back to their winning ways in 2024.
