Continue ReadingAlex Orecchio Alex Orecchio 5’8″ | 155 lbs | QB Old Tappan | 2025 State NJ has been an absolute monster for Old Tappan. Alex has led his team to a 9-1 record, and a 36-0 shut out of Lincoln last weekend in the sectional semifinals. Going up against the underdog West Morris, who they faced last year in the Group 3 semifinals, Alex will need to continue playing as prolifically as he has. A true duel threat, Alex has passed for 1156 yards and has found the end zone 18 times through the air. What may be more devastating to defenses is how he uses his legs. He has compiled 705 yards on the ground and has scored 10 touchdowns. The junior QB has the potential to take Old Tappan all the way this season.
One of the leading passers in the state, and one of the only ones to cross the 30 passing touchdown mark, Landon DePrima has been on fire all season. With 2610 passing yards and 37 touchdowns so far this season, Landon has been nearly impossible to slow down. Ramapo’s offensive has been averaging nearly 40 points a game this season, and have blown out the majority of the teams they have gone up against. The closest matchup of the season thus far for Ramapo occurred in late September, against the team they will be going up against in the section finals. Northern Highlands gave Ramapo the best fight yet, and a rematch this weekend is sure to excite like the last meeting.
The team Ramapo has to go up against also has a talented leader on the offensive side of the ball. Junior Nate Johnson has played a very similar role as Landon DePrima has for Ramapo, with a little more reliance on the legs. Nate is one of the more accurate downfield throwers in the state. With great timing with his wide outs, he can hit them in stride and let them do the rest. With 1889 passing yards and 24 touchdowns so far, Nate is quick in his drop back, getting his eyes downfield immediately and finding his target.
With 667 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the season, Nate can be deadly with his feet. Especially with the read option, Nate can force the defender to commit to the RB and take off with it. Northern Highlands vs. Ramapo is the game of the weekend up north.
Highlights
Trashon Dye Trashon Dye 6’0″ | 195 lbs | RB Passaic | 2024 State NJ is having a very impressive statistical season from the running back position. Gaining 1624 yards on the ground and 18 rushing touchdowns, the Passaic Tech product has been throwing defenders around and then proceeds to outrun the rest of them. Trashon is a man you would not want to go 1 on 1 with between the tackles. He is a bruiser of a back, delivering a blow that flattens would-be tacklers that are in his path. Trashon is truly one of the best RBs in the state and will make momentum changing plays in the finals.
Malachi “Bubba” Lewis has been a gem in Montclair. The junior QB came in this year with a new tea and has not looked back. With great size and an extremely quick release, Bubba is dialed in when he is in the pocket and can pick coverages apart. Bubba has found the end zone 21 times through the air this year and is inching towards 2000 passing yards on the season. Montclair is going up against by far the toughest opponent yet this season in Passaic Tech. Bubba and Co. will have to play a near perfect game to hand Passaic Tech their first loss of the season. Montclair trusts in Bubba, and he is a player that will gain a lot of attention over this next offseason.
