Week 2 Preview: Big Time Matchups + Big Time Players, Part 2

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With as much football action as our Great Garden State has this coming weekend within the high school ranks, here are a handful of games – and as a fan what I am looking for in each one. This article features matchups from across the West Jersey Football League (WJFL), Super Football Conference (SFC), and independent schools not governed by the NJSIAA.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Be sure to follow me on&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/BrendanScoutsNJ">Twitter</a>&nbsp;for the latest New Jersey high school football prospect news and not miss a beat!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:separator --> <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" /> <!-- /wp:separator --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">West Jersey Football League</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Egg Harbor (2-0) at Clearview (2-0)<br><br>This matchup figures to be a good litmus test for both teams. Each standing at 2-0, both teams defeated lesser opponents by wide margins. <br><br>Egg Harbor features two talents that are currently juniors in [player_tooltip player_id='2385898' first='Josh' last='Colella'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2385934' first='Jahiyd' last='McClellan']. Starting with McClellan, he appears to be the straw that stirs their drink on offense. McClellan has gone for 254 yards and 3 scores on 40 attempts this season, while also registering 3 receptions for 46 yards. In a relatively balanced attack in terms of yardage, Colella has gone an efficient 21-30 for 315 yards with 3 TD with 1 Int. On the other side of the ball, there have been several defensive standouts thus far. Leading the way is senior defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='2386087' first='Alex' last='Lazos']. Lazos has recorded 16 tackles (6 solo, 1 for loss) with 2 interceptions. Meanwhile, in the trenches [player_tooltip player_id='2386107' first='Julian' last='Robles'] gets an opportunity to prove himself early. Robles, a freshman, has made 10 tackles (9 solo) with 1 FF and 1 sack across two games in his debut season.<br><br>Clearview is anchored defensively by the Wright brothers - [player_tooltip player_id='2371225' first='Landon' last='Wright'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2386254' first='Logan' last='Wright'], separated a year apart, Logan is a junior who leads the team in sacks (2), solo stops (4), tackles (12), and forced fumbles (1); whereas Landon has leads the team with 2 picks, while also making 6 tackles and recovering a fumble. Offensively, quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='2386270' first='Robert' last='Seney'], a sophomore, leads the offensive attack. Seney is more of a runner, as he leads the team in carries (24) and rushing scores (3), for 134 yards - adding 203 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception on 6-9 passing.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Winslow (2-0) at Glassboro (2-0)<br><br>Two-for-two on a <s>Tues</s> Thursday. In a true, headlining matchup, two-time defending Group IV champion Winslow travels to Glassboro to take on the host, two-time defending Group I champion. Get your popcorn ready.<br><br>Despite losing their head coach, quarterback, and several other players to either transfer or graduation, Winslow sits 2-0 and has won by a 93-6 margin in their two games. Sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1561071' first='Javon' last='Thompson'] has siezed the opportunity and played exceedingly well. Thompson has gone 27-38 for 446 yards with 6 touchdowns in the young campaign. His favorite target is also a relatively new face in [player_tooltip player_id='2217876' first='Jayion' last='Moss']. Moss leads the team with an 8/170/4 slash line, while adding an interception on defense. On defense Winslow has intercepted 6 passes thus far, with 6 different players. That said, only sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1147359' first='Joshua' last='Quann'] has returned his pick for a score. Fellow 2029 graduate [player_tooltip player_id='2217868' first='Cam' last='Picott'] has also made an impact early in his career as, he too, has intercepted a pass.<br><br>The youth movement at quarterback is also in effect at Glassboro, as they break in a new signal caller for the first time in years. [player_tooltip player_id='2179579' first='Bryson' last='Daniels'], a freshman, has been productive with the plehtora of talent around him. Daniels has gone 25-34 passing for 385 yards with 5 touchdowns to 1 pick. Nearly half of his competitions and more than half his yards have gone to Oregon-bound [player_tooltip player_id='426571' first='Xavier' last='Sabb'] (12/204/2). Defensively [player_tooltip player_id='2386579' first='Riley' last='Brown-Dispensa'] has emerged as a productive lineman early on. Brown-Dispensa has disposed of offenses and been a highly disruptive force, having already accumulated a team-high 4 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries to go along with his 1 forced fumble and 13 tackles (10 solo, 7 for loss). He teams up with sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2386583' first='Roman' last='Robinson'] in the trenches as Robinson has accrued 8 tackles (2 solo, 1 for loss) and a sack to start his career.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Super Football Conference</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>St. Joseph's Prep (PA) at Bergen Catholic (0-2)<br><br>Another clash of the titans is happening, this time all the way up in Bergen County. National power St. Joseph's out of Philly travels up I-95 and on to the Garden State Parkway as they look to send Bergen Catholic reeling with an 0-3 record. Although I know little about Pennsylvania football, I know that Joe's has always been the team to beat. That said, they are coming off a down year with a 5-5 record and got knocked off early in the playoffs. Bergen Catholic lost heartbreaker in Maryland last week, losing to Our Lady of Good Counsel by two points. <br><br>The Oklahoma-bound [player_tooltip player_id='412019' first='Trey' last='Tagliaferri'] has been on a tear to start his junior campaign. The soon-to-be-sooner has gone 61-86 on the year for 792 yards with 6 TDs and 1 pick. More times than not, he has linked up with senior [player_tooltip player_id='437687' first='Bryan' last='Porter']. Now a senior, Porter has 20 grabs for 223 yards and 1 score. Defensively, sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1522443' first='Nate' last='Wortley'] has gotten off to a strong start, making 16 tackles (6 solo), leading the way thus far. He is flanked by fellow 2029 graduate [player_tooltip player_id='2386589' first='Michael' last='Tremarco'] (10 tackles) and freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1455183' first='Mason' last='Chadwick'] (10 tackles, 3 solo).<br><br>Joe's is loaded with talent, starting with the top-ranked player in the state, [player_tooltip player_id='1089718' first='Jett' last='Harrison']. Brother to current pro, and son to NFL hall of famer Marvin Harrison, Jett will have his pick of where to attend college next fall. Rightfully so, expect Joe's to get the ball to Harrison in any way they can. There are two linebackers who will make things difficult for Bergen Catholic. The first, [player_tooltip player_id='671932' first='Brandon' last='Lockley, Jr'] is the top prospect in the state at his position and is headed to Oregon. Lockley is ranked 11th in the state and pushing for a top-10 ranking. He is flanked by a familiar face to our New Jersey readers in [player_tooltip player_id='415328' first='Ausar' last='Heard']. Heard crossed the Delaware River after former head coach Bill Belton bolted for St. Augustine. After receiving several offers early on in his career, Heard looks to resurrect interest by going to Joes. As if this was not enough firepower, Masaiia Acrey closes the coverage for Joes. Acrey is ranked 22th overall and 5th as an ATH. Needless to say, Acrey can bust a game open in all three phases.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Roxbury (2-0) at Morris Hills (2-0)<br><br>This ought to be a good one as two run-heavy teams face off in an old school matchup of grind-it-out football, when the Gaels travel to take on the Scarlet Knights. <br><br>For Roxbury, junior [player_tooltip player_id='2074655' first='Frankie' last='Falco'] is their offensive centerpiece. The running quarterback leads the way with 38 carries for 348 yards and 5 scores, while serving as an awfully effective passer at 11-13 for 146 yards and 3 passing scores when he steps back to throw. Falco is complimented by [player_tooltip player_id='2386594' first='Jimmy' last='Murphy'], a senior, who has a 13/166/2 slash line on the young season. Defensively they are led up front by [player_tooltip player_id='2386597' first='Ian' last='McMahon']. McMahon, a junior, has made 15 tackles on the season (5 solo), forced two fumbles, and made 4 tackles for loss. Meanwhile, teammate [player_tooltip player_id='2044374' first='Matthew' last='Donnelly'] has made a living in the backfield thus far on the young campaign, having a team-high 7 tackles for loss while also registering their only sack.<br><br>On the ground expect Morris Hills to lean on [player_tooltip player_id='2386600' first='Emilio' last='Mogro']. Mogro, a junior, holds the team lead in all three major rushing categories, with 34 carries, 132 yards, and 2 scores. In the same breath, fellow junior [player_tooltip player_id='2386602' first='Shayne' last='Santiago'] has 25 totes to his name for 73 yards and a score. On defensive, [player_tooltip player_id='2386608' first='Joe' last='Wadleigh'] cleans up from his linebacker position. Wadleigh has been good for a team-high 16 tackles. In front of Wadleigh with his hand in the dirt is lineman [player_tooltip player_id='2386622' first='Colin' last='Apgar']. Apgar leads the team with 2 sacks and is third on the team with 9 tackles. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Independents</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Blair Academy (0-0) at Kent School (CT) (0-0)<br><br>In the season opener for both teams, Blair Academy travels into Connecticut to visit Kent School. Blair is looking to build upon their 4-5 season last fall, while Kent is rebuilding after a 1-8 season.<br><br>The two most productive prospects Blair brings back are [player_tooltip player_id='910889' first='Kellen' last='Nelson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2386628' first='Jack' last='Seeger'] - both seniors. Starting with Seeger, he was primarily a receiver and defensive back who was credited with 43 tackles (20 solo) and 2 interceptions on defensive, with a 16/123/1 slash line on offense. Lining up opposite and next to him on both sides of the ball, Nelson brings back even more productivity. Nelson slashed 21/301/2 through the air, while making 33 stops (23 solo) on defensive to go along with 2 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions, and 1 pick-six.<br><br>Outside of a roster from last year, I was unable to find information about Kent. Look for Brody Garner to make a leap this fall, as the 6'3" 200lb sophomore is a defensive back and receiver. Complementing him at tight end is Lukas Mihelic, all 6'4" 215lbs of him. Meanwhile, the trenches are home to Henry Paquet. A senior, Paquet has FBS-size at 6'5" 315lbs.<br><br></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list -->
