I believe I have identified some of the top matchups set to happen between the Truckee vs. SLAM state championship. Below, I highlight five of the college prospects set to take the field this Saturday.
Maxx Ellermeyer
Maxx Ellermeyer
Maxx Ellermeyer is looking to finish his high school career as a back-to-back state champ. The good-sized linebacker is sure to have some schools come in late to his recruitment once the postseason ends. Maxx shows a good combination of size, strength, and instincts dropping ball carriers at the point of attack before they have a chance to cross the line of scrimmage. Good athleticism and closing speed shows pursuing intended receivers in zone coverage and squaring up ball carriers in space. Good length, quickness, and a smooth change of direction shows consistently slipping blocks and redirecting in the run game. Watch for Maxx to be a key component in stopping SLAM’s rushing attack this weekend.
Reese Womble
Reese Womble
Reese Womble is a versatile iOL prospect for SLAM. Despite the lack of regional attention, I am excited to see how Reese’s recruitment ends up once the postseason ends. Reese’s next level athleticism shows in the quick feet and flexibility he displays squaring up linebackers at the second level. Next level strength and toughness gets displayed driving defenders from the point of attack as a puller. A good skillset, size, and athletic ability allow Reese to project into multiple interior OL positions at the next level.
Chenney Chua Chenney Chua 6’0″ | 250 lbs | OL SLAM | 2025 State NV has had a terrific season lead blocking for SLAM’s offense. The rising iOL prospect is sure to have his recruitment heat up once evaluators turn on his postseason film; Expect recruiters to watch how SLAM’s OL prospects handle Truckee’s defense. Fast feet, a quick strike, and good leg drive highlight Chenney’s next level sustain ability. Good power and acceleration shows exploding through defenders at the second level. Chenney’s good lateral quickness and next level strength displayed stunning speed rushers in pass protection highlights his ability to be a versatile interior pass blocker in college.
SLAM is hungry to get on the field this weekend after losing to Truckee in the state championship game last year. Damien Nevil Damien Nevil 5’11” | 175 lbs | ATH SLAM Academy | 2025 State NV is set to be a huge part of SLAM’s game plan on both sides of the ball. The versatile junior attended a UNLV game last week and I would suspect his regional recruitment heats up after the postseason ends. Damien’s next level combination of strength, burst, and top speed allows him to break tackles and rip off huge gains down the sidelines at any moment. Damien’s size, power, toughness and good leverage gets displayed punishing smaller defensive backs at the second level. Awareness in zone coverage, closing speed, and athletic ability displayed intercepting the ball suggest Damien still could be recruited as a defensive back.
Highlights
Joseph Birnbaum
Joseph Birnbaum
Joe Birnbaum Joe Birnbaum 5’11” | 175 lbs | RB Truckee | 2025 State NV has quietly lit up opposing defenses all year for Truckee’s offense. I would expect Joe’s recruitment to skyrocket this offseason as he solidifies himself as one of the top 2025 playmakers in northern Nevada. Joe’s instincts and quick feet allows him to create when forced to go off script. A good combination of vision, acceleration, and lateral quickness allows Joe to make huge gains by slipping tacklers in traffic. Good balance, strength, size, and power in his finish suggest Joe can handle all the hits that come between the tackles in the college. Joe’s solid hands, large radius, and ability to adjust at the catchpoint highlights his potential to be a receiving threat at the next level. Watch for Truckee to rely heavily on the talented junior as they look to repeat as state champions this weekend.
