Derek Hurley
Derek Hurley
Hurley showed flashes of versatile playmaking on offense despite being limited by injuries in his junior season for Coronado. He handled carries as a lone tailback and ran routes out of a wing/h-back spot, showing strong receiving skills for a RB. As a ball-carrier, he sees the field well and is quick in and out of the hole at the LOS but would like to see more of the breakaway/top-end speed once he hits space. Hurley’s looked good in clips from spring ball at both RB and LB and should raise his stock as a valuable playmaker on both sides of the ball for Coronado this season.
Damien “DJ” Dixon Jr.
Damien “DJ” Dixon Jr.
Dixon Jr.’s a sleeper at the S position that led Arbor View in INTs last season (3) and set a physical tone as a second/third level tackler. He has a long, athletic frame at 6’1″/190 with room to grow and develop. He shows range as a middle-field safety, great ball skills turning loose throws into turnovers, and attacks ball-carriers downhill with violent intent. He’s quick to react to ball flight and drives hard on routes to close space. Look for Dixon Jr. to develop into a breakout prospect among Vegas’ 2025 DBs in the coming months.
Soares made plays as a perimeter CB for Faith Lutheran last season with 55 total tackles, 3 INTs, and 5 TFLs as a junior. He’s a smart, instinctive zone defender that can read-and-react on the fly and be disruptive in passing lanes with his anticipation. He’s quick to drive downhill on quick swings/screens to the flat and can turn the hips to get over the top as a 3-zone defender. Look for Soares to continue to grow and develop athletically as well as sharpening his DB skillset heading into his senior season.
Highlights
Aksel Ferry
Aksel Ferry
Ferry’s a physical SS/OLB that thrives around the LOS as a strong tackler between the hash and sideline. He’s extremely active around the edge of the box moving with good lateral burst and closing speed to the ball-carrier. He’s quick to diagnose, react, and trigger to the football. He’s effective in short, underneath coverage and was an important contributor on special teams last season (2 blocked punts). Ferry, who picked up his first offer from South Dakota last year, should start to generate some recruiting momentum with a strong senior season for Bishop Gorman.
Leroy Terry
Leroy Terry
Terry earned some time at RG and RT as a sophomore for Bishop Gorman before transferring over to Arbor View prior to his junior season. He’s a powerful blocker on the inside (6’3″/295) that can use his natural strength to move defenders off the ball and packs a punch at the POA. He moves well as a puller and shows competent footwork as a pass blocker. Terry, who was on campus for Fresno St.’s junior day in April, has an important senior season ahead of him.
