In the very first game of the 2023 football season, Edmond Santa Fe made it very clear to Class 6A-1 that 2022 was in the past. The Wolves had to suffer through a 1-9 season a year ago and the lone win would not come until the final week of the regular season. Fast forward to this week and you have an Edmond Santa Fe team that is ranked #4 in the latest 6A-1 rankings and they are 5-1 on the season. But more importantly, they are perfect in district play. And on Thursday night, they host #2 Union in a game that could certainly end up deciding the district championship.
Santa Fe still controls their own destiny within the district and after close calls against Mustang and Norman in the last two weeks, the Wolves will be hungrier than ever when Union comes into town on Thursday night. Back in week zero, the Wolves sent shockwaves across the state by going on the road and beating Jenks. The announcement was loud and clear that the Wolves were for real in 2023. The only blemish on the record is a week two loss to Norman North by a field goal. They had their week one game with Choctaw get cancelled following the tragic shooting at Choctaw the previous week.
The Wolves opened up district play with back to back wins over city rivals Edmond Memorial and Edmond North. They were dominant in both as the running game emerged as one of the best in the state. More on that later. Two weeks ago, they found themselves in a high-scoring affair with Mustang. They would survive with a 56-49 win but that was a Mustang team that would simply not go away despite being down big a few times. Last week, they would survive an upset scare from Norman, putting up 50+ points again to avoid the loss on the road.
This week, the focus shifts to a Union team that is not at full strength coming into the showdown. They are without their starting quarterback and they will be starting a freshman in his place. Despite missing their QB1, the Redhawks had no problems running away from Mustang last week at home. They leaned on the running game and didn’t ask much from their young quarterback. Although, he made throws when he needed to and had a few that caught our eye.
But Union’s quarterback situation is not the most intriguing question ahead of Thursday’s game. Santa Fe’s star running back (again, more on him in a bit) has been averaging over 300 yards per game since district play began. If he continues his hot streak, Santa Fe will be in good shape. When Mustang had success against Union last week, it was with the ground game. That’s certainly going to be something to watch heading into this week. Below, we take a look at four players for the Wolves that will certainly have our attention in this top five showdown in Class 6A-1. These aren’t the only players to watch on Thursday night but these are guys that will certainly have an impact in the outcome of the game.
EDMOND SANTA FE PLAYERS TO WATCH
Edmond Santa Fe senior defensive lineman Bergin Kysar Bergin Kysar 6’4″ | 245 lbs | DL Edmond Santa Fe | 2024 State OK has been an impact player for the Wolves for a while now. It’s safe to say that he’s been one of the top prospects at his position for a while now. Kysar announced this summer that he was committing to OU and choosing to be a preferred walk on over offers from a few other D1 programs. Kysar has been lights out this season and is one of the team’s leaders in sacks as well as tackles for loss. But it goes without saying, Santa Fe’s defense is going to be hungry coming into this week’s game. They’ve given up nearly 50 points per game in the last two contests and while they’ve won those games, they want to bring that number down.
Highlights
You can make the argument that there hasn’t been a better player in the state over the last month. Santa Fe junior running back Demarius Robinson Demarius Robinson 5’9″ | 165 lbs | RB Edmond Santa Fe | 2025 State OK has run for a little over 1,200 yards and nearly 20 touchdowns in the last four games ALONE. That’s an outstanding season and Robinson has accomplished that in the previous four games. He’s had two games of more than 300 yards during that stretch and he’s certainly going to be one of the top players to watch heading into this showdown with Union. Robinson has been a 2025 running back to watch since his freshman season. He missed a lot of his sophomore year with an injury and he has more than made up for lost time this fall.
Highlights
Kysar isn’t the only dominant defensive player to keep an eye on this week. We’ll also be looking at fellow senior Jason Wilson Jason Wilson 6’1″ | 220 lbs | LB Edmond Santa Fe | 2024 OK along the Santa Fe front seven. Whether he’s lined up at linebacker or closer to the line of scrimmage, Wilson has been an impact player for the Santa Fe defense. And like we mentioned with Kysar, the Santa Fe defense will look to bounce back in a major way after two high-scoring affairs. In that season-opening win over Jenks, Wilson was one of the stars of the night. He finished the game with three sacks as the Wolves stunned the Trojans. With Union starting a freshman at quarterback, don’t be surprised if Wilson brings the heat and impacts the game.

Robinson and the Edmond Santa Fe rushing attack will grab a lot of headlines and rightfully so. But to set Robinson up for success, you have to have a good offensive line. And when you’re talking about offensive linemen, it doesn’t get much better than senior Josh Aisosa Josh Aisosa 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Edmond Santa Fe | 2024 State OK along that Santa Fe front. Already committed to OU, Aisosa is one of the top prospects at his position in the state’s 2024 class. And it’s hard to argue the success of the Santa Fe running game with Aisosa paving the way. He’s not alone on the Santa Fe offensive line but he’s certainly the most notable prospect along the offensive front. It will be interesting to see how he and the Santa Fe OL work against Union’s front seven.
