Player Of The Year Watchlist – Week One

Anyone is eligible to be added but this is a list that is reserved for the best of the best. This is our second week of adding names and it's still very early on in the season. But these three additions have already stood out this fall and all three came into this season, firmly established as some of the best players in the state of Oklahoma. And all three are also some of the better two-way players in the state, even if all three project to being on the defensive side of the ball at the next level. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] - Senior Tight End/Linebacker - Washington</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We'll get our first chance to see Washington tight end and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] tonight as the Warriors go on the road to face Sulphur. This summer, Alexander announced his commitment to Penn State. Since his freshman season in 2023, Alexander has been considered one of the best overall prospects in the state's 2025 class and he remains a top five guy heading into his senior season. He got his senior year off to a great start last week, in Washington's 34-0 win on the road over Perkins-Tryon. Last year, Alexander also had a successful showing in Washington's showing against Sulphur. Offensively, he's an athletic pass catcher that can line up as a traditional tight end or be split out at wide receiver. Defensively, Alexander is one of the top linebackers in this part of the country. He has a nose for the football and it has been that way since his freshman season. As Washington looks to take down Sulphur Friday night, Alexander will have a huge role for the Warriors as he's one of the most experienced players in the state.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1297663' first='Gabe' last='Osborne'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Mustang</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Mustang standout [player_tooltip player_id='1297663' first='Gabe' last='Osborne'] is another top five prospect in the state's 2027 class and he kicked his senior season off with a dominant performance against Choctaw in week one. Osborne, like Alexander, announced his commitment this summer and he committed to Oklahoma. He joined two other top five overall prospects by committing to the Sooners. In that win over Choctaw last week, Osborne was outstanding on both sides of the ball. offensively, he caught a touchdown and made some pretty special plays at the wide receiver position. He also turned around and was lights out at the cornerback position, which makes sense considering he's thought of as one of the best cornerbacks in the nation. We've written and talked about Osborne quite a bit over the last three years. In our opinion, he's one of the very best athletes in the state of Oklahoma. Every time he steps on the field this season, he will be arguably the best player on that field. So there was no doubt that Osborne was going to make an appearance on the watchlist this fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] - Junior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Owasso</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Owasso junior athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1328118' first='Kamieon' last='Compton-Nero'] is the first junior to be added to the Player Of The Year Watchlist. He was on the watchlist last year as a sophomore and it was only a matter of time before he earned his spot on it again this season. He helped guide Rejoice Christian to a state championship last year and he was a key contributor to their 2024 state championship. The dynamic junior then made headlines this offseason when he announced that he would spend his final two years of high school at Owasso. Last week was his first opportunity to face 6A-1 competition and it came against the most dominant team in the state in Bixby. Nero did not back down from the challenge and performed incredibly well. He might have had one of the catches of the year with a one-handed touchdown grab in the back of the end zone. In his first test against 6A-1 competition, he passed with flying colors. He's firmly established as one of the state's top 2028 prospects and will be a dynamic two-way player for the Rams this fall.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
